More tests due - can you advise if this would cover everything?

Hi all,

I have been referred to another endocrinologist who is sending me for blood tests to try and get to the bottom of whether there is an issue. Having had DHEA, Cortisol, Total T4, TSH, FT4, FT3, FT4:FT3 Ratio, Thyroglobulin, TPO recently, she is proposing now to do:

Bone Profile

HbA1C (Glycosylated hb)

Iron

Liver Function

Vitamin D

Ferritin

Full Blood Count

Vitamin B12

has this covered everything?

Sandra, Folate should be done as well as B12.

Thanks Clutter - what does Folate test please?

Sandra, Folate is a B vitamin, B9 I think. It's synergistic with B12 but high B12 can mask low folate and vice versa so its good to have them both tested.

stopthethyroidmadness.com/l... These are the labs and as you can see, some need different methods for testing.

It's hard to suggest possible tests without knowing what your specific symptoms are.

Have you been screened for autoimmune diseases? If not, an antibody screen (anti nuclear antibodies, rheumatoid factor, anti CCP, anti ribosomal, liver and kidney antibodies, anti parietal cell, anti intrinsic factor etc) might flag something up if you have non-specific symptoms.

I was also going to suggest parathyroid hormone but since you're having a bone profile which will test calcium, that would indicate if there is a parathyroid problem.

I wondered since you've been testing hormones like cortisol etc, have you already checked sex hormone levels?

Since you're having everything tested, might as well check kidneys too?

I have tested DHEA and Cortisol - apparently we are going to test Cortisol again though but Doctor s already convinced that they wont find anything and that I am fine even though I cannot get a handl e on my weight or that I break out in acne even though I am in my 40's amongst other things...

No. I don believe so - unless they come under some other generic banner?

It might be called something like a female hormone profile. If you haven't had these tested, and nothing else seems to indicate a problem, it might be worthwhile suggesting them too. I think sex hormone imbalances can cause a whole range of problems, and definitely issues like adult acne.
