Vitamin B12 deficiency from the perspective of a practicing hematologist
I feel this article contains many bits of information that often pop up on this forum, and explains them quite thoroughly and clearly. At the end is a statement that is relevant to most people on this forum, and I quote that statement: "It should be noted that patients with pernicious anemia at times

vitamin B12 high
hi , have just had my blood tests results back had to have them done because I take statins and metformin. My vitamin b 12 has come back at 746 which apparently is abnormal, as anyone else had high vitamin B readings when taking statins or metformin ?

Hi all. I wonder if you could share your thoughts on my latest results. My levothyroxine has been increased from 50 to 75mg. I have had a very sore mouth and tongue for over 12 months and was hoping if my B12 levels increased and my levothyroxine was working well, it would go. It hasn’t. My B12

Ferritin iron advice please
Hello, My recent ferritin results was 21% of range, even though iron was 78%. I did neglect iron the last few weeks a bit as I ran out of my usual iron tablets. I have now Solgar's Gentle Iron 20 and iron in a liposomal form (gel) 20 mg as well. How many should I be taking to raise it? Thank you

Private/NHS Haematologist Referral to Access NHS Iron Infusion
Hi Guys Background is that for B12 to work its magic there must be sufficient iron in the body - even being slightly low in iron circa 18% deficient for example, can apparently hinder the healing effects of B12. Now, needless to say that for most GPs this is complete rocket science and mind blowing

Guardian Article about B12 from algae
An article in the Guardian today about how certain algae harvest b12 and that this could be exploited to create a natural source of B12 for vegans. I was a little confused by the following paragraph. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2023/jul/15/scientists-find-vital-missing-ingredient-for-healthy-vegan-diet-algae

Hello, I'm 70 years old. Last week I had a vitamin B12 shot on Monday, and then on Tuesday I saw a hematologist because I wanted to rule out that I'm anemic. He ordered labs (they did them right there on site). A few minutes later, he said I was not anemic and was also probably not B12 deficient. (so

Hi. Probably in t he wrong section but all thoughts welcome. My ferratin is in the 'normal' range but low and dropping, even though I have been taking oral iron spray daily, liquid iron supplement given by my doctor, high iron foods in my diet. I get days of complete fatigue, other days I can cope but

Times online article about B12
The Times has an article today about B12 deficiency. The readers comments at the end are interesting. The article is called ‘Brain fog in elderly and vegans may be caused by lack of vitamin B12’. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/aa5c8f2a-2075-11ee-b9dc-95034bbd78f3?shareToken=feae109e8ecb5526b4216906db9d585b

Review of Betine
Betaine -- also called betaine anhydrous, or trimethylglycine (TMG) -- is a substance that's made in the body. It's involved in liver function, cellular reproduction, and helping make carnitine. It also helps the body metabolize an amino acid called homocysteine. I often read about homocysteine yet

Supplemental B12 and Animal Agriculture
I was curious about the destination of manufactured supplemental B12 (I am vegan). In several books promoting vegan or plant-based diets I had come across the claim that 90% of B12 supplements are fed to livestock. This figure seemed quite high to me. The usual reference for this claim is not a scientific
