blood count results?

Hi everyone! šŸ˜Š

I was just wondering whether any of you wonderful intellectual people can read these blood results and maybe give me an insight to what they actually mean and if they are ok!?

Iron is what I am most interested inā€¦

I am currently awaiting my yearly full vitamin panel blood test - I.e - vitamin D - B12 - ferritin - folate

Thanks in advance! šŸ˜Š

On the right it shows the range. On the left your result. It looks like they are all in range. So ok.

Sorry youā€™ve had a tough T4 journey!

The test you shared did not test for any iron. Many people (me included) seem to get this full blood count panels thinking/hoping they are something else and so far Iā€™ve seen little use for them.

If you are looking for iron advice, I asked the same question here, and even asked what on that blood count remotely relates to iron:

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

But thatā€™s just one post, there are tons of other good posts on the board just by keyword searching Iron.

As has been said, most of the results are pretty much in the middle of the range. Thereā€™s no iron results, but one of the uses of iron is to make haemoglobin, thatā€™s at 141 (117-149) for absolute level and 31.8 (26.9-33) for the concentration in the cells. Both of these numbers are good and relatively close to the top of the range, so I donā€™t think you have any issues with iron levels. Ferritin is the storage form of iron, rather than circulating in the blood, so that could still be low.

However, your mean cell volume is 94 (81-97), again, close to the top of the range. This says you have relatively large cells, that could be entirely normal for you. Or it could mean your B12/folate levels are a bit low. We use B12 and folate to make new blood cells, then iron to make the haemoglobin to fill the cells. If we have plenty of iron but insufficient B12/folate the cells can become overstuffed, and end up larger. Yours arenā€™t over range so you donā€™t have a big problem, but itā€™s probably worth keeping an eye on your levels.

Thank you for your very intellectual response! šŸ™

You seem to know your stuff!

This blood count was taken back in May! I found it out when I was sorting through paperworkā€¦ since then I have been very religious taking my supplements including a new B complex containing folate instead of folic acid!

Also after taking 210mg of ferrous fumarate for around a year to build my ferritin level up I now just take a solgar 20mg gentle iron alongside vitamin C.

Any advice is welcome or what Iā€™m doing wrong šŸ˜Š

Itā€™s only through reading here that Iā€™ve learnt so much. Snippets here, snippets there, put them together.
