Wish I'd found this forum earlier, thank you to all for helpful advice and comments. I was diagnosed in Jan 2019 with PMR and my GP def thought I had GCA leading up to that (terrible migraine like continuous headaches, sickness, light sensitivity and massive weight loss - couldn't eat anything really

Private cholesterol test
Has anyone tried the private cholesterol tests? If so which would you recommend? I had my bypass in September last year and am on 40mg statins daily. I just want to know what's going on inside me, I haven't had my cholesterol checked since way back when. I'm surprised they don't do it regularly. Thanks

Covid testing on high risk persons.
I take a plethora of drugs including Statins, bp control, metformin. I have type 2 diabetes, a pacemaker fitted and have had sepsis 3 times in the last 24 months. Have ANY tests been done on the Covid 19 vaccine on people with similar conditions, and what was the outcome? To have the jab, or to brave

Does anybody know which is the enzyme, that muscles need, that statins target in the liver?
Hi All Still looking for an answer for long standing muscle aches which started during a short 12 week course of statins, ending in April 17 - and have not gone away but have even progressed from then. I read recently that statins target the same enzyme in the liver, that muscles need. So, can anybody

Cholesterol control
Hi, unknown to me my doctor contacted a specialist following my recent blood test results. I had a phone call out of the blue from the specialist asking which statin I was talking. I explained that I cannot tolerate the severe side effects and am not taking any, which my local surgery knows. I had 4

Statin or not??
I'm going to be 50 years old later this year(!) - I'm 5"10' and just under 10 stone (62kg). I gave up smoking 10 years ago and although I'm not an athlete I do keep quite active as I have 2 young kids. My diet is reasonably healthy - porridge every morning and recommended amounts of fruit and veg throughout

Severe pain in my arm
Hi this morning I had severe main in my left arm that radiated into my back under the shoulder blade. I was not able to relieve it by moving my arm, lying down or standing up. I called 999 and the paramedics gave me an ecg which they thought was normal. Blood pressure also normal. Just in case they took

Inhaling statins!!??
Just spotted this article about alternatives to statin tablets which reduce the dose and the side effects. Needs more work but anything that reduces the number of tablets and the muscle pain .... https://www.msn.com/en-gb/health/medical/inhaling-statins-rather-than-taking-as-a-pill-could-end-side-effects

Anybody ever heard anything like this before ?
I have been a poor sleeper all my life mainly due to working shifts amongst other things. About 5 years ago I started to have severe night-time heart palpitations which only happened when I went to bed (as if I already wasn't a poor sleeper) these have made my life miserable. I have had every investigation

PMR caused by statin (high cholesterol) drugs?
Hi, I’m Joe. Age 71. I have had PMR since June 2021. I am almost convinced that my PMR was brought on by my previous use of Simvistatin. I had these same PMR aches and stiffness when taking Simvistatin, and they went away almost immediately when ceasing use of any statin drugs. Has anyone else

High Liver Enzyme Count
Hi Guys, Not sure whether anyone has experienced anything similar here? The Mrs noticed a yellowish tinge on the palms of my hands so went to the docs who sent me for a blood test. My liver enzyme count was high so the doctor reduced my statins from 100mg to 60mg and sent me for an ultrasound on

Understanding the vaccine priority
Am I correct in thinking that having had a heart attack and a stent and being 63yrs old, that this will place me in priority group 6 ‘16 - 64yrs - with underlying health conditions? I have always thought it did. I ask your advice on this as my 58yr old sister with no underlying conditions, lives in

Why thyroid function tests are in such a mess!
This is an excerpt from an Italian scientist replying to me on the reasons why the various tests are not properly controlled by the companies selling them: He describes the way the various groups don't communicate with each other and therefor have no interest in getting the tests harmonised:

I have had permanent atrial fibrillation for about 20 years. (cardioversions and ablations haven't worked). I take Rivaroxaban and statins and 99% of the time feel very well. I have recently read that I have and increased risk of heart failure because my af is permanent. Is this true and what is my risk

Gum Disease
This is a question for a Medical Person HA last June, 3 Stents fitted and now on a mixture of drugs. For 30 years I have been going to the dentist, twice a year, only had 2 fillings and 1 emergency tooth chip fixed. Every time had a clean and polish. Never any signs of gum disease. Visited dentist last
