quinine bisulphate and CKD
Since my last posting I have found more info. on the use of Q Bi-Sulph for leg cramps. It is not recommended, as one side effect is stated to be possible renal failure. Why then, I wonder, was I prescribed it many moons ago at 50 (I am now 81) when I was already at least Stage 2? I can only think

Pain Quinine and other medication.
I've had quite a lot of muscle pains, I had a spasm in the trapezius muscle two months ago and due to mortons neuroma had a spasm last week in which my toes went in different directions. These have both left me in pain. My GP suggested quinine tablets or tonic water but I am not sure if the adverse

has anybody any comment to make regarding the above. My husband has been given two different opinions, one the cll consultant saying quinine should be avoided and a registrar saying it is perffectly suitable.

Is anyone else bothered with leg and foot cramps? I have PV Jak 2 negative.
After each venesection for about 2-3 weeks I get bothered with leg and foot cramps, particularly in bed at night. I asked my haematologist and was told it was probably due to low iron levels and that drinking tonic water (quinine) would help. When I mentioned to the cramps to my GP he just laughed as

New to Forum...not sure if I have RLS and advice would be great.
I am wondering if anyone on this forum can help as I am not sure whether I have RLS. I initially thought it was something like Benign Fasiculation Syndrome but am not sure. I've had pains in my right leg that have come and gone since I was a child (am now mid-forties) and was told they were growing

Tonic water and Hydroxichloraquine?
Hi - wonder if anyone else has experienced extreme nausea and vomiting after drinking tonic water? I added some slimline tonic water to my fruit juice last night in order to take my Hydroxy tablet with my dinner. I bought a few bottles to keep me dry - the taste of tonic is like having a g&t so it keeps

Pet Peeves in Describing RLS, (and this is everywhere, on every site that has to do with RLS.)
Sooooooo many people have so much trouble describing RLS, this may be a helpful hint for some of you. This is about the use of the word "cramp" when used to describe RLS. RLS is not cramps in any way shape or form. Nocturnal leg cramps are muscular, like those charlie horse cramps that make you want

painful leg spasms
Please does anyone have any answers or cures for extremely painful night time leg spasms. Have tried everything from years of quinine (now withdrawn), Vit D and Calcium supplements, Magnesium supplements, muscle stretching excercises, taking real salt rather than salt replacements and raising the bed

How useful is Baclofen
How useful is Baclofen to others? I was on it from before diagnosis, but it didn't really reduce spasms. My Neurologist then put me on to Quinine, but that didn't help either. I have now taken myself off both drugs (with the agreement of both GP & neurologist) and am on no medication apart from occasional

Quinine sulphate side effects
Hi. I've just found this site and am loving reading the blogs and questions! I've had RLS for years but until recently it was manageable and mainly in the evenings. Recently it has got worse and been affecting my sleep so I decided it was time to see my GP. He did a blood test to check iron and kidney

I have suffered with RLS for the last 40 years to varying degrees. I have tried various "cures", these range from quinine tablets to clomazapin.
