Pethidine

Due to absorption problems, + major reactions to a lot of painkilling medication, my then Colorectal Surgeon, prescribed IM Pethidine for my abdo pain. This has been controlling my pain very well, until the beginning of 2024, when it was abruptly stopped when I had to be admitted to hospital.

I have a colostomy and I had to have a colonoscopy this week I was given pethidine. I found the procedure very painful and was told it was because I take morphine for chronic pain. This worries me in case I need emergency treatment where I will need pain management.

in 22 hours plus for several years I had pethidine then fentanyl too! Surely I’m a victim of my meds?

I had pethidine unfortunately we didn’t realise I was in established labour- pethidine isn’t recommended in established labour due to baby having breathing issues after birth. I was 10 cm dilated within half an hour! My other labours were fast but this was crazy fast!

They finally gave me pethidine about 7pm however this caused my baby boy to need resuscitating when he was born as he wasn’t breathing and I didn’t get to see him for almost 2 hours, not even a glimpse.

I went for an upper gastroscopy on the 13th May. For the rest of the week I felt awful and REALLY faint/not with it. I am of a very small frame and that was a lot to give me..... he said this was normal. But now 3 weeks later, the feelings have definitely improved but i’m STILL getting episodes of ‘

Jan 2015 i had a Hysterectomy to help improve my symptoms from Endo, so far so good, i have had very little pain (i was taking morphine, Pethidine, Dihydrocodine and naproxen + sleeping tablets) for the pain before my surgery.

I have good quality pain killers, up to and including 50mg Pethidine, Lyrica and (rare, I know) Co-Proxamol. I suffer from very bad migraines, often 'cluster migraines'. Strangely (?), I don't have any Rheumatism or any form of Arthritis.

I'm on Lyrica for trigeminal Neuralgia (face) and that's fine unless I miss a dose (100mg x 3 times a day) and I have Pethidine 50mg which doesn't stop the spine pain either.

Very relieved and feeling lucky, also can't remember a thing....had Buscopan (20mg) Midazolam (1.5mg) and Pethidine (50mg)...worked a treat. No pain afterwards and have lost a few lbs to boot. Blood test booked for Monday to check everything, especially my thyroid levels as still very fatigued.

hello does/has anyone taken prescription pethidine (50mg) tabs for a period of time 5+ years, any feedback appreciated. how did your body cope. thank you yvonne

Over the years ive been prescribed movicol, pethidine, co codomol , tramodol , orimotph and zomorph. The zomoroh did edge the pain. Ive now moved to leeds and my new gp is reluctant to prescribe it. The pain is so bad that last year in april i tried to end my life.

Periods so painful last few years ended up in a&e for pethidine anything they would give me, gynae consultant suggest trying mirina again, when putting it in removed some polyps under GA.

Examination two - 2cm dilated....................then my waters went, so I was given a shot of pethidine. Back in a warm bath and after about 20mins I'm re-examined due to the severity of pain - 5cm! Finally we were getting somewhere!

At 3pm I was 3cm dilated and had pethidine to help allow me to sleep. Woke up peropdically for gas n air but nothing exciting happened until 7pm when I woke up in ultimate agony and wouldnt stop sucking on the gas and air. After an hour I felt like I needed a poo n my body naturally went to push.

Body went into shock after the surgery and then had a reaction to the pethidine and threw up everywhere.. So not a great experience! Also has the copper coil removed and the mirena coil fitted.. So all in all I'm feeling pretty battered!
