Questions about taking Alendronate (Fosomax) and hydroxyeurea
After having a physical and a bone scan my gp just recommended taking alendronate for
osteopenia
. I walk 3 miles a day and work out. I have concerns about doing this especially with taking hydroxy. I have a friend whose femur fractured after using Fosomax.

I’ve been taking D3+K2 and magnesium.

Hormone replacement therapy for bone strength
I have been taking Activelle for the past ten years and am still in
osteopenia
and my scores have improved. I have read that use of HRT can cause breast cancer. My GP said to continue with the HRT. Any thoughts?

Osteoporosis, osteopenia and running
Last time I was at the doctors I asked for a follow up scan, and the results show that I've improved as it's now
osteopenia
. The only lifestyle changes I've made are that I no longer work in an office and, of course, running. I doubt that the former would do much for my bones.

Help - Osteoporosis and cancer
I also have
osteopenia
in the dual femur region. I will try to identify a consultant to speak to but in the interim as I do vigorous yoga, I’m now panicked that in keeping me healthy to fight cancer, I may be risking fracturing my spine!

e2 patch
well I finally got to meet with y Oncologist last week regarding use of estradiol (e2) patch to battle against osteoporosis /
osteopenia
because the 90 day Xgeva dosing (down from every 28 daysx 2 years) doesn't seem to be doing much.

Disappointing news
I was delighted when a further Dexa indicated improvement and Osteoporosis was now
osteopenia
. However, a recent Dexa has shown I have Osteoporosis again this time in my hip. I was surprised in view of my positive history and feel quite deflated!

Endo appointment, T3 results at last and hyperparathyroidism possible
I have
osteopenia
but she said it was in line with someone of my age but, of course, I'd rather not have it and do something to reduce it!

New treatment guidelines
Just been reading the new US guidelines for osteoporosis/
osteopenia
. I am in the Uk so probably different here. But what struck me was this extract "For postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, you should use a bisphosphonate as first line treatment to reduce the risk for future fractures.

I have been diagnosed with

Last dexa was good news
I would have been happy if it stayed the same, so really thrilled that my spine is now 1.2, a 7.3 increase and my left femoral neck is -2.4 a 5.3 increase I know most broken bones are people with
osteopenia
and I know it's something I'll have to watch my whole life, but I am very proud of myself and

Decapeptyl and bone thinning
I had this for two years and it was then stopped as my DEXA showed significant
osteopenia
(5th centile for pelvis). I started on the combined pill which then caused my symptoms of bleeding and pain to return. As the Decapeptyl hugely improved my QOL, I was restarted back on this after 8 months off.

Update on Dexa scan
Thankfully I haven't got osteoporosis but as a lot of you suggested I have
osteopenia
. I have been prescribed alandronic acid as some of you are.

Update: The Squeaky Wheel (heard fr Neuro)
I do have
osteopenia
, but of course can't take AA. I do take 4000 D3 and also K2. CRP was 1.1. I suggested that the higher Pred might have lowered it. He does not "think" that cranial GCA is evident (although he sounded kind of unsure; out of his "wheelhouse", but is not neurological?).

Referrals??
(Spinal Fracture,
Osteopenia
, Fatigue, bone, joint and and muscle pain as well as general sick feeling. I have discussed on two occasions with my MO, and he is NOT receptive to e2 patch at all. He claims the cardio risks are still present like with oral estrogen.
