I would ask your oncologist for Xgeva (known as Denusomab). It will help to overcome osteopenia. What is your ALP blood test results? If high it will come down to normal.
if you had a fracture then we call it osteoporosis not osteopenia. You should start therapy with either a bisphosphonate or Denosamab. The latter is better at increasing bone density over time and apparently is better and inhibiting bone metastases from prostate cancer. Things light calcium or bone powders have very small effects if any.
Hi - my husband was recommended to take 1200md calcium with vitamin D3 when he started ADT. (There is a study showing benefit to bones with this supplementation: urotoday.com/journal/everyd.... My question is whether 'overloading on calcium' would show up on routine bloodwork? Thanks for your help.
When Vitamin D and Calcium supplementation were tried in several large randomized clinical trials, they both failed to increase bone mineral density (BMD). In fact, excess Vitamin D has been found to pull calcium out of bone, causing osteopenia. See the section titled "No Effect or Negative Effect on Bone Mineral Density" in the article below:
What was the T value in the vertebral bodies, the femur in the dexa scan?
If you have spontaneous vertebral fractures, you may have osteoporosis and you need treatment with zoledronic acid or denosumab.
If you have osteoporosis forget about supplements, except for small amount of calcium and vitamin D to maintain normal calcium and vitamin D blood levels.
