Inulin improves gut health in humans in part by stimulating the growth of beneficial bifidobacteria
I need smartypants to figure out if this inulin is good or bad please. https://selfhacked.com/blog/health-benefits-inulin/ Inulin is present in 36,000 plant species including those we consume in our daily diets such as wheat, onion, bananas, garlic, and asparagus. They are also found in less common foods

More on Gut Microbiome and Akkermansia muciniphila
Recently pjoshea posted on this topic: Optimizing our gut microbiome with prebiotics (that create an optimized environment for beneficial microbes) and probiotics (the colony forming beneficial bacteria to repopulate the gut). This particular probiotic bacterial species appears to be the best. But most

Are you taking anything with magnesium? I can I tolerate no magnesium other than the magnesium glycinnate form. They all send my intestines into overdrive. Even supplements and vitamins can have irritating ingredients. Another problem can be lactose intolerance or sugar alcohols- such as sucralose, maltatose

Chicory Inulin for Constipation for Children?
Hi, has anyone tried their child with chicory inulin for constipation? Despite a very healthy diet and lots of water my son is still having to take 4 sachets of Movicol daily. I was researching natural laxatives and chicory inulin came up - can anyone recommend and advise on a good brand to try please

Inulin and psyllium
I just replied to a post with this information which might spark some responses...... I had to include the graph because it really made me laugh! (PS = psyllium, WD = wheat dextrin) The serious bit: - Inulin is a type of fructo-oligosaccharide, or FOS, that helps to feed the "friendly" bacteria in

Inulin - may help sleep and constipation
My daughter recently bought me some inulin to try as she had heard it can help you sleep. I can't honestly say it helped me sleep at the time, but a side effect is that it is helpful with bowel movements!! More recently I took some on holiday with me - for my bowels, and this time I do think it helped

Extremely bloated and constipated!!
Hi everybody, I hope someone out there can help please... A couple of years ago I lived out of the UK for a month, during that time I was very busy and I ate when I could. The week before I returned to the UK I got constipated and as a result, bloated. When I got back my period was about two months

I don't want to speak to soon but....
I came across some Nutrigen Inulin sachets for stool regularity on Holland & Barretts website and they *seem* to be making a difference. My three year old has been struggling with stool withholding for about a year now. Longest he held was 10 days and his stools (when they did appear) were a big sticky

Is there any difference between Galactooligosaccharides and Fruchtooligosaccarides ? Calling fbirder !
Have started taking Bimuno prebiotic preparation to benefit my gut (it’s a Galacto-oligosaccharide). It’s quite expensive. £20.00 for 220grams , conveniently divided into 3.65 gram sachets . I now see that one can buy Fruchto-oligosaccharide , called Inulin , which is much cheaper— £9.00 for 750 grams

WP Thyroid warning
So I recently bought WP Thyroid because it apparently only had two inactive ingredients: inulin and medium chain triglycerides. So I received it and took some today, and had a very bad allergic reaction. After reading the instructions it also has lactose monohydrate in it. It doesn’t state this on

Jerusalem artichokes are in season … grab them for the sake of your gut.
Jerusalem artichokes are in town and full of Inulin … which is super good for your gut bacteria . They are knobbly but just need a wash, don't peal and boil up with onions and a carrot for soup . liquidise well . Or wash and roast in the oven with other veg. Sadly the season is short enjoy Wulugu

Thanksgiving wishes and foodie thoughts
Here in the US, we are about to enjoy our annual Thanksgiving celebrations. A big part of this holiday is the food. We often think about binging on this meal but it is not a good idea for those of us with kidney disease. Here's a few suggestions especially for those who have some of the same issues I

Nuelin discontinued?
I have been on
Nuelin
175 tablets twice a day for a long time but now the dispensary at the practice says that they can no longer find a source for them. Is anyone else in the same position? If so, can you tell me what you were given as an alternative?

Has anyone on here tried Inulin?
Hello All I was reading about this soluble fibre the other day and was interested to find that Angela Rippon took it when she found out, as part of her research for the 'How to stay young' programme: that, although she has an enviable slim figure; she has (or had) a lot of visceral fat around her organs
