Shingles vaccine and asthma
I am the age where you are invited to have the shingles vaccine, and I need to decide soon, as the offer is time limited. It is clear from what I have read that you should not take it if you are on oral steroids, but it suggests that inhaled steroids are fine. Has anyone had this and how was it? I am

Shingles vaccine
Hi, I have been having mepolizumab injections for over a year now with amazing results. I have just been offered the shingles vaccine. Does anyone know if this is contraindicated.

Fed up with always getting colds and bugs
I ended 2018 with a nasty chest infection which took months and a ton of medication to budge. After that I seemed to have a cold or a bug every few weeks, all through the year. 2019, I spent 2nd Christmas in a row, too poorly to get out of bed (with a cold, each time, rather than regular hypo symptoms

Asthma symtoms and further test denied
Hi all, this is the first time I post here. I want to share my first experience with (Asthma?) symptoms. Since one year I started to experience episodes of breathless mainly at work, cought and sudden awakenings in the night with suffocation feeling. I always thought it was for anxiety and stress. But

Who is the best Healthcare Professional to see
I was just on the website of an NHS GP practice. It offers this list of reasons you might need to see someone and identifies who would be appropriate. Spot “thyroid” in any form! (“Tiredness and fatigue” doesn’t count – too nebulous, not at all specific.) Given that levothyroxine is just about the most-prescribed

Pneumonia Jab
Has anybody had the one-off pneumonia jab offered by the GP surgeries? I was offered it after the flu jab but I had to make another appointment for the pneumonia jab but the queue for the reception was really long so I left it. But with the coronavirus on its way it might be a good idea to get it done

Healthy New Year’s Checklist for People with Kidney Disease
For those of you on Original Medicare, you know that at the beginning of each year you are advised about a Wellness Check that OM will cover. For those of you who have other insurance you may or may not receive something similar. In any case, I thought this checklist would be valuable for all to see

Has anyone heard of a fibroscan being wrong?
OK, I'll try and make this as short as possible. I was a heavy drinker in my 20s and early 30s but in more recent years I've basically stopped drinking. I've had a few paracetamol overdoses too, the last being 30 months ago when my symptoms started. That one was accidental, really stupid since I'm aware

When to go to A & E
Despite having a flu jab for the first time I have what appears to be flu! A bad bout of coughing last night set off an AF episode lasting about 15 hours so far. I've never had AF last more than a few minutes before. I took a PiP of Flecainide & Bisoprolol this morning which had no effect. Spoke to my

MVA triggered by immune challenge
I am not sure where this post might lead, or even if it serves any purpose. Probably it doesn't. However, I will proceed anyway! I have noticed a consistent pattern of immune challenges causing MVA flare-ups: these challenges can be an infection, a flu jab or even an insect bite. I wondered if anybody

Asthma cough/mucus worse past three years
I've noticed lots of people on the site writing that their asthma has worsened in the last few years. A lot of us were given the pneumococcal vaccine about then, could this have triggered something? Or the ever changing flu injections?

Shingles vaccine and blood tests
Thanks all for your replies on the vaccine and blood tests. I will ask if vaccine is live when time comes (3 years yet) and see if I can register to see blood test results - I have one for thyroid every year.

Reducing prednisolone and flu vaccine
I have just seen my rheumatologist (we will know the blood results in a couple of days), and she suggested I start alternating between 15mg and 10mg for the rest of this week (my week starts on Monday) and drop to 10mg from Monday. When I dropped from 15mg to 12.5mg a couple of weeks ago, it took almost
