Hello.
Just a thought, had flu jab but never been asked to have Pneumonia jab.
I thought it only applied if you were over 80. I think I might ask my GP about this.
Any info please. Stay well everybody.
Hello.
Just a thought, had flu jab but never been asked to have Pneumonia jab.
I thought it only applied if you were over 80. I think I might ask my GP about this.

I had the pneumonia jab this year as advised by GP due to having RA. Thankfully no major side effects from it.
If you have had pneumonia then you will be offered a pneumonia jab whatever age you are.xx
Had my first pneumonia jab 10 years ago and a booster a couple of months back. I'm 68.
My rheumatologist advised it before I started methotrexate.
When I first asked my GP about this she said that methotrexate didn't make me eligible. Then the registrar threw a wobbly at my appointment last November (I did have a bug and cough at the time) and said that I should have had it. So I returned to the GP only to find that they were out of stock 🙄 They said they expected them to be in March so I'm planning to get back in touch. My only hesitation is that work is busy atm and is quieter from April so I'm tempted to wait until then but maybe most people don't get a reaction to it? 🤔
As soon as I was diagnosed I was told to have both flu and pneumonia jabs I was 49
Hi orange I had the pneumonia jab as soon as I went on to metx, I am nearly sure that it lasts 10 years. I prob got mine about 9 years ago.
I've just rung the surgery and it's still out of stock 😢 Expected to be available beginning of April. I thought that it lasted for 5 years? 🤔
I had it several years ago and under 60 no problem at all, you get more side effects from a flu jab. Like runny nose and headache.
I've never been offered a pneumonia jab. I did have flu jabs when taking dmards and benepali. I don't have anything now as not taking any drugs.
I’m thinking by the time I get to 80 why bother?Only ever had flu once having actually had the influenza vaccination.
I was on Mtx for 7 years & nobody ever suggested I should have the pneumonia vaccine.....& as I have never had any lung problems I didn’t bother....as doc is OK with that.....l left it at that.
I was asked to have the pneumonia vaccine before I started leflunomide. Never had it before, never been asked to. With things being as they are it might be prudent to check with your Rheumy or Nurse & then if advised you should have it (which I would think they will), book it with a Practice Nurse at your Surgery. You may need to give them prior warning as it might need to be ordered.
Rheumatology told me to have it, so I booked for it at GP surgery only to find out it was out of stock! Then the next time I tried was told that I don't meet the criteria of the 'green book' 😕 but could have it if it's in writing from rheumy, it is! but they couldn't find it in my records! so now have to hunt through my hospital letters to take in to GP's! Grrr...
Hi orange33
I had the pneumococcal jab. My Rheumatologist and GP recommended it in 2018. At that time I was 64.
However, I made sure I got it before RA diagnosis. This was possible as I lived in WV till RA struck and it was pretty obviously RA, and I wanted to endure protection from meningitis etc.
Best ask your GP if in the UK.
I had my first in my 59s and another 5 years later. But then I've had it 5 times.
Hi My Rheumatoid nurse said I was to have flu jab and pneumonia jab. Before I started on mtx. The nurse who give me my first pneumonia jab said I would get every five years but my flu jab Ive had that every year since. All jabs I get done at my GPS
I had it last year and it put me in bed for a week I had to have the doc out to me , but everyone is different .
