Warfarin or not Warfarin?
First a little background. Around three years ago I was fitted with a mechanical heart valve. Which, of course, means a lifetime of Warfarin. Unfortunately, I suffered a stroke mid-surgery and was transferred to a different hospital. Blood tests showed that my platelet levels were low and the ward doctor

Wandering Scot presently living in Mexico and recently diagnosed with PMR
I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with PMR after being first told I had gout and then it was emotional. Pain in my neck and shoulders and exhaustion had been going on for about 9 months but I kept thinking I was sitting the wrong way at my computer or sleeping the wrong way so would take an over-the-counter

Test results, a penny for your thoughts?
Hello everyone, just had my latest blood tests done. Just curious what you would say about them, if you have the time? A few months ago I went up by 12.5mcg in an attempt to bring my TSH down to around 1 where I generally feel better. My weight is a lot better these days, my heart rate has finally calmed

Why you should NOT supplement high-dose D3
https://youtu.be/GsomcvdT7Po This random video I came across deserves more views. If you're baffled about how to get enough vitamin D when not exposed to regular sunlight, try supplementing raw cold-pressed cod liver oil instead along with vitamin K. https://www.westonaprice.org/health-topics/cod-liver-oil

Just a thought... Parsley to cancel out alcohol when on warfarin?! :D
Hey guys! So, it's happened, I am now on warfarin :( First time I have been put on a drug and not happy to do so. I'm mainly reluctant because I'm a very "unroutined" person and vary my diet hugely depending on my work/mood/social/a phase of eating particular - maybe everyone does? And I know they

Mother-in-law with EDS has very low Potassium readings
We thought Mum had dementia and the EDS (diagnosed) means she lives with pain and is unsteady. It just transpired that she has had a long term kidney infection and really low Potassium and has been hospitalised and put on a drip for this twice this week, its possible that this and not just the EDS has

Valium alternatives
So while in hospital for my barrage of tests etc I was taking high doses of slow K and slow Mag morning and night (magnesium and potassium) and Thiamine (high dose in the morning) and Valium in the morning and at night. The supplements I’ll get a clearer picture of from my nephrologist that originally

Vitamin D
HiMy vitamin d at last test was 141 and optimal in the range. Is this too high? Do I need to get my vitamin k tested? I'm not on d or k supplements.

Hypercoagulability and Thrombosis Risk in Prostate Cancer: The Role of Thromboelastography
A new Canadian paper {1]. A soapbox paper, but one that resonates with me Many years ago now, I ended up in ER with a double DVT (deep vein thrombosis) in my left leg ; fortunately below the knee. My doctor wanted me on 3 months warfarin (as a first time offender) + 3 months extra for cancer. I asked

Just diagnosed with Osteoporosis, rock and a hard place...
Do any of you have multiple conditions that make it difficult to treat OP? I have stage 3b chronic kidney disease, which means I have to limit my calcium and my protein. I also have chronic deep vein thrombosis for which I am on lifetime blood thinners. That means no food high in vitamin K. I'm also

Blood test results
I recently had private blood tests done and the thyroid results were: TSH 0.08 (range 0.27-4.2) Free T3 5.02 (range 3.1-6.8) Free T4 11.2 (range 12-22) I take 75 mcg T4 per day plus 15 mcg T3 liothyronine per day and followed the suggested testing rules from here. I still have a lot of symptoms

Please can you interpret my latest blood test
I have now got an appointment with the Endo Clinic on 27th Oct. and need to put my ducks in a row. I attach the results of my latest blood test on 17th Oct. and would be grateful if you could interpret what is going on with my thyroid so that I will be better informed when I see the Endo.
