I’m looking to take Vit K (I think it is) to help with my osteoporosis. Where is best to get it from and optimal dose please. I’m in the U.K. I don’t take osteoporosis drugs as didn’t agree with me. Waiting on a repeat dexa scan in November. Thankyou

It's K2-MK7 you need (or K2-MK4, but that's very expensive in the UK and both seem to be equally effective). If you buy MK7, you need 90-180mcg per day. It's easy to find online, or shops like Holland & Barrett sell it, just make sure you buy a reputable brand. Some people say you need to buy it in an oil-based capsule, but I'm not convinced that would be any better than a tablet, so long as you take it with food (it needs fat for absorption). I found Vitamin D tablets kept my blood D at the same level as capsules and spray, so I imagine it would be the same for K2.

Solgar produce a K2 MK-7 capsule that contains Natto extract which is the best natural source of this vitamin. (Natto is fermented soya.) The capsule is a vegetable capsule. Expensive compared with others. Holland and Barrett sell them, as do some pharmacies.

I currently take the Solgar K2 MK-7 capsule that contains the Natto extract (the supplement that you refer to). On the container it recommends to take one capsule per day with food which is what I currently take. I also take between 4,000 to 5,000 IU per day which maintains my vitamin D3 level at ~125 nmol/l.

Would you agree that taking one of those K2 capsules per day is sufficient. They each contain 100mcg.

Thank you for your help and advice.

I also take one 100 mcg per day as per the label but wouldn’t like to comment if that is sufficient as am not medically qualified. ROS nurse told me when I asked that you need to work out how much you are getting from your diet before anyone medical could advise on dose.

hi not sure if this would be of interest to you, but when I was looking into K2 supplementation I realized that Natto is not too hard to make, which is an excellent way to get the vitamin as well.

I now take the K2 MK7, I think? but I’ve also started making large batches of Natto, it’s freezable and I actually like the taste and consistency (not everyone does).

Best of luck to you-

Better You do a vitd3/vit k ( mk7 ) spray, if you are lucky you could get it in boots when they do 3 for 2 offers. I take 2 sprays a day to give me 2000iu vitd3 and 100ug i think of vit k. If you are on blood thinners speak to your GP before taking vit k

For anyone in Australia, I’ve just noticed Ostelin has put out a triple vitamin with K2, calcium and vitamin D3.

Amazon uk, just got some today.

I like what I'm reading about K2 MK-7 but I'm going to start with sauerkraut, kefir, and kimchi as my sources rather than a supplement. I'm sure my gut health will benefit as well.

I’ll have a look at that option. It’s the quantity I’d be unsure about.
