Abiraterone instead of chemo in current covid-19 crisis?
My husband was scheduled for chemo this week (PSA today is 2.2; 3 weeks ago was 7, down from 24 in Jan following decapetyl started in Feb. - Scans show no bone mets but mediastinal lymphadenopathy). (DX. July 2017 (T3a N1 M0). Previously had decapetyl and RT. TX ended 18 months ago.) The consultant

Do immunosuppressants skew thyroid blood results?
I have been on
immunosuppressants
for 11 years due to Vasculitis which destroyed my kidneys. I know chronic kidney disease can cause hypothyroidism and I was left to go into complete renal failure, had to dialyse for 2.5 years and nearly four years ago my husband donated a kidney to me.

GOOD NEWS for us from coronavirus front line
Hello all, I know this is a really worrying time for many of us so thought I’d share the positive conversation with my rheumy department this morning. I have (another 🙄) kidney infection and my GPs also said probable coronavirus, and to get advice from rheumys. I’m at a big London hospital where most

Inconsistent and Confusing Advice about Isolation, Social Distance and Shielding and WHY this is REALLY IMPORTANT.
This post began life as a response to another user's post. It got a bit long, so I am posting it in its own right. I would love to hear people's responses and experience of this. I interpreted the recent rheumatology advice in the same way (see the other post here: https://healthunlocked.com/lupusuk/

Yes, another COVID-19 post. Important.
New info of concern to the group. By now, most will know that ADT as monotherapy is not immunosuppressive. Testosterone [T] at normal-high levels is immunosuppressive. To that extent, those who had high T before ADT will have removed a risk factor. I don't know how low T has to go before we can ignore

Should we be on the critical risk list when taking benepali/etanacept?
I'm on benapali for RA and was expecting a letter saying I was one of the 'vulnerable' but haven't had one. It is an immunosuppressive though? Has anyone else on benapali had the letter?

Lymphoedema and Covid19
This email was sent out by the Wittlinger Therapy Centre, Austria, earlier today - it explains a lot in an easy to read way: Dear patients! Since we have received more requests in the past few days about whether people with lymphoedema disease have an increased risk of COVID 19 infection, we have summarized

Stopping Immunosuppressant Medication During an Infection? Sick-Day Planning for the Coronavirus Outbreak
Guidelines for Stopping
Coronavirus outbreak aside, it is a common practice to at least consider temporarily stopping immune-suppressing medications when patients have infections.

Maybe a bit of clarification: what a rheumatologist said (today!)
We made a YouTube video for our rheumatology patients on
immunosuppressants
/steroids to explain our own local guidance further. I personally think individuals faced with conflicting advice should check with their own doctor, and if it is confusing, in the meantime take the more conservative option.

Risks from Corvid19
Does PBC put us more at risk from the Corvid19 . Also is URSO an immunosuppressant.

Is Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) an immunosuppressant
I read this stating it was not an immunosuppressant - although other reports state it is? A medication often taken by Sjögren's patients, is not generally considered an “immunosuppressant.” While it does change or “modulate” the immune system in various ways, it does not lead to an increased risk of

Graves’ disease & overactive thyroid as result of immunosuppressive treatment for MS
New to all this . I’ve been over heating, sweaty and disgusting for a good couple of years but I only got the letter saying my thyroid results tested high in Jan (on my 40th 🙄) Since then started on low dose of Carbimazole and Propranolol. 2 weeks later my results shot up, now on 80mg Propranolol

Clarification on "Vulnerable" v "Extremely Vulnerable" categories
I have decided to post this due to the high levels of confusion there appears to be on other threads, and the misinformation flying around. Hopefully Lupus UK will post something similar soon. Here are the facts. There are two major categories that the government are using for those who are at high

Covid-19 Information for patients with vasculitis from Vasculitis UK
https://www.vasculitis.org.uk/news/coronavirus-covid-19 This has one of the better explanations of social distancing and self-isolation that I have seen. This is information that definitely should apply to anyone on over 20mg/day pred and anyone on pred and a supplementary immunosuppressant or a biologic

Clarity on immunosuppressed status
I have just got off the phone with my Rheumatologist. Actually on the back of daughter’s phone consult ( has finally been diagnosed with a form of Sicca disease and will start Hydroxychloroquine.... no great surprise as I have RA)! I said my understanding was that I am NOT on the “Shielded” list as

Distinct immune composition in lymph node and peripheral blood of CLL patients is reshaped during venetoclax treatment
Key points: 1. The immunosuppressive footprint of CLL on nonmalignant lymphocytes is more pronounced in the lymph node microenvironment. 2. Venetoclax combination treatment reduces immunosuppressive features of CLL, suggesting immune recovery after elimination of tumor cells. Understanding the effects
