Clarity on immunosuppressed status

I have just got off the phone with my Rheumatologist. Actually on the back of daughter’s phone consult ( has finally been diagnosed with a form of Sicca disease and will start Hydroxychloroquine.... no great surprise as I have RA)!

I said my understanding was that I am NOT on the “Shielded” list as I am only on Benepali ( immunosuppressive) plus Hydroxychloroquine.

He had just come out of a meeting regarding medications and risk.

Although he didn’t actually say “ your not on the list” he strongly suggested even more stringent social distancing and be very very cautious. He did say that it is a case of weighing up if the individual is healthier and able to carry on their lives more able by being on their RA meds. However, they are keeping a close eye on the situation of immunosuppression and CV ‘19 risk and they will write to us if this position changes.

I was not surprised. Hope this finds you all well.

In that vein I put myself into isolation on Friday 13th (!) as I'm on Rituximab and don't want to be refused my next infusion at the end of April. I rang my GP surgery today to book a blood test for next week and the rather surly receptionist couldn't understand why I think I'm it risk and said "we haven't sent the letters out yet." And as my surname begins with a W I will probably get mine in the last tranche mailed!
