I have been on immunosuppressants for 11 years due to Vasculitis which destroyed my kidneys. I know chronic kidney disease can cause hypothyroidism and I was left to go into complete renal failure, had to dialyse for 2.5 years and nearly four years ago my husband donated a kidney to me. My immunosuppressants were increased hugely to prevent rejection and hypothyroidism symptoms have become worse and worse, resulting in every cell being flooded with water. I have gained 30kg in less than four years and feel worse than I did when my kidney function was only 15 (now around 70). I know as a family we have the rogue DIO2 gene - as do all my medical team however they rely solely on the routine bloods. As I am riddled with autoimmune diseases I expected to have high Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (Anti-TPO) but it is 0.06 (00.0 - 5.61 normal). I have a goitre which is benign and full of blood (had a further scan last week), plus all the other symptoms I have ever seen listed including toes which are 'clawing' as did my mother's and sister's. I am the only member of the family to have been seriously ill prior to hypothyroidism symptoms which caused myxedema coma and killed my mother and very nearly killed my sister.
Sorry long rambling post, need you to have a little background, is there anyone else who is immunosuppressed please?
Thank you!
