Lancet study on carbs: a critique
This is quite long, so rather than clutter up Zest's thread (or the other one discussing the newspaper editorial) I thought I'd better create a separate one, simply because lot of people might find my comments too boring to respond to :) First off (and I'm not pretending this is an academic observation

Update on Oxycodone
Hello all my restless friends. I said I would let you know how I fared with starting oxycodone. I have now been taking 5 mg. Longtec (oxycodone) for two weeks. This tablet is slow release over 12 hours. For the first few days I played about with the time of taking and have now settled on 8.00 p.m

Why beta-blockers for portal hypertension, rather than blood pressure reducing drugs?
Hi My Mum has recently been diagnosed with NAFLD and stage 1 cirrhosis and she has been prescribed beta-blockers. We were just wondering why beta blockers have been prescribed rather than the usual blood pressure reducing drugs? Does anybody know why this is? Not saying it's wrong, just wondering

High cholesterol
This is my first post. I am 32 years old and I have hypothyroidism too. I was initially found to have high cholesterol back in 2016. My HDL level was 5.8 (<5.0) I have also been getting white plaques of skin around my eyes, the nurse said that is indicative of high cholesterol and I have had those since

Do these cholesterol levels need further treatment or are they okay? Aged 21
Hi, I recently had a blood test at work and haven't had chance to take the results to my GP yet. I should start by saying I have a family history of heart disease/problems. My maternal grandmother had a stroke in her late 40s and died of a heart attack aged 54. My mother is displaying signs of what could

High Cholesterol diagnosis
Had diagnosis of high cholesterol early 2017 and got referred to the Lipid Clinic at hospital. I have been told my LDL Cholesterol is at present 2 times what it should be. The doctor advised taking 10 mg Simvastin or Ezetimibe. I am currently refusing this, as I have heard so much bad stuff about statins

Cholesterol numbers
Hi All Am hoping, as raised cholesterol can be a thyroid symptom, that someone here may be able to help with this? The first set of numbers are from Feb 2018 the second from June 2018. Is that an unremarkable increase or a marked increase? As in has it crept up a little bit or way more than you would

Any advice on oedema of the feet in the heat?
Hi all, I have mild CKD with very few symptoms (stage 3). This current heatwave in the U.K. is playing merry hell with my feet though. My husband says I look like a hobbit :-) my feet are fine when I wake up but by the time I go to bed they are huge and very painful (and in bad days my ankles too). I'm

Does anyone who suffers from bronchiectisis and mild pulmonary hypertension have to have regular venesections due to secondary polycythemia? Initially when first diagnosed with secondary polycythemia I had to have weekly then fortnightly venesections but then got less and less until I didn't need one
