Can running cause or worsen colds?
Twice recently I have come down with cold symptoms after a longer or harder than usual run. I've barely got over the one I had a couple of week ago, now I seem to have another one. Yesterday I hammered the Stamina" podcast and had a sore throat with a few hours....I got one within 5 hours of doing my

Close Encounters
In the mid 70s, My brother and me were returning home, following another step along the road towards rock stardom. It was about half midnight. What had been a lovely summers day had given way to a warm cloudless night. We were driving along a dark and unlit motorway, the M66, with the shimmering lights

Statins
My Rheumatologist has prescribed statins (I do not have high cholesterol or high blood pressure). I am on a reducing steroid regime for GCA having started at 60mg per day and am now down to 8mg per day. I do also have claudication in my right calf due, they think, to Cystic Adventitial Disease ( this

Effective emollient moisturisers: tips please?
Sjogrens sicca dry overheated skin symptoms are even worse for me this winter than ever. Complicated by my raynauds being simultaneous with erythromelalgia, all are secondary to my infant onset systemic lupus.....along with various other typical secondaries. Am on daily hydroxychloroquine + mycophenolate

Advice please: prescription emollients
Sjogrens sicca dry overheated skin symptoms are even worse for me this winter than ever. Complicated by my raynauds being simultaneous with erythromelalgia I've had enough years learning to manage all this, and trying various over the counter moisturising products. So far, Aqueous cream doesn't work

Cold sores?
I was diagnosed (hypo with massive antibodies-1100 at last count) about 2 years ago and since then I noticed I never got any recurring infections like colds, cold sores etc but this morning I've woken up with the beginnings of a cold sore. Does this have any significance? The only thing I have done differently

Peter's health
Pete is not doing so well today, he seems to be choking a lot and producing excessive amounts of nasty sticky mucous. He does have his back up antibiotics but hopefully they will not be needed. He feels he bumbles from one thing to another but tries to remain cheerful. The back problem is seemingly being

Spinal Cord Stimulation
I need to recharge… Following the unsuccessful procedure I underwent at the end of November (Stellate Ganglion injections), my consultant from the pain clinic presented the future options, one of which had never been indicated before. I hadn’t really been listening to what he was saying until my ears

Rats and Little Mouses...
There is a little animal under the sitting room windowsill...inside...not outside and he or she chews away happily half the night...I sleep on the settee as you know and the settee is right under the window, so in the middle of night, when it's fairly dark and reasonably quiet, that chewing sounds quite

Writing Stories...
I do find writing stories or articles easy enough...most especially when the gist of them come from personal memories where there is no need to be precise or exact over names and dates or places. GCA - Coughs, colds and flu
Coughs, colds and flu have really taken their toll this winter. Started on 60mg for GCA (positive biopsy) down to 7mg by mid November after 18 months and feeling fine, but since then have had two bouts of flu and at least 4 nasty cough / colds. Seem to be picking up everything going. Can't face the idea

Vitamin D3 - higher doses
Really interesting video on vitamin D3. Apparently, most of us are now deficient and we are not taking enough. Gives advice on safe higher doses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH1rB-Ya2UQ I'd also recommend the book, "The Miraculous Effects of High Doses of Vit D3 and K2..." By Jeff Bowles.
