Unable to find the person who spoke about his wife Pat's improvement after taking various supplements. I have severe COPD and just wanted to know if anyone has tried Vitamin A 25000 IU and CO-Q10 ?

Regards

Morning Dell

You can always use the search button on the top right hand corner. This will give you all the previous posts on any subject you type in.

So many posts have been written on the subject you may find some information you previously haven't read.

Have a good day.

Q10 is a re-visited supplement for me and I swear by it now.

10 000 IU of preformed vit A (retinol) is the 'official' safe upper limit for indefinite daily consumption. This includes a generous margin of error. 25 000 IU/day would be safe for most people, but some might experience adverse effects after prolonged dosage at this level, particularly in the absence of adequate vit D.

ajcn.nutrition.org/content/...

Quote:

'Chronic toxicity results from the ingestion of high amounts of preformed vitamin A for months or years. Daily intakes of >25 000 IU for >6 years and >100,000 IU for >6 months are considered toxic, but there is wide individual variability for the lowest intake required to elicit toxicity . . . the elderly may be at significantly greater risk of toxicity than are younger adults with a chronic high intake of preformed vitamin A, but the mechanisms for this greater risk are not known.'

There is some evidence that more than 5000 IU/day would be unwise if you have osteoporosis, particularly if your vit D levels are low.

Hi to you both

Thank you so much for that information. I thought I might take one every 5 days? But now I think I will play safe and buy the 5000 IU. I turned 65 last month so I guess I would now be considered elderly. Frightening thought! Despite the severe COPD I manage to work 3 days a week but am considering retiring this year. I must try the vitamin d 500 IU as well. Hope you are feeling OK, Pat?

Very kind of you both to get back to me.

Regards

It makes no difference whether you take 25000 IU once every 5 days, or 5000 every day. The body stores whatever is surplus to the days needs, and calls on those stores on days you fail to consume enough.

Thanks for that. I had no idea.
