Sex and dopamine
Research has found that 'mating' stimulates dopamine production IN MEN! Apparently women need to engage in 'nesting' to achieve the same effect! Yes nesting is housework and tidying but it is also shopping! Another tip from my sessions with Dr Farias fariastechnique.com

The benefits of exercising to music
One aspect of Parkinson's is the body's desire not to move, which it achieves by reducing dopamine production and freezing, rigidity and bradykinesia. Playing loud, low, beat-y music at between 100-120 beats per minute while you exercise eliminates the freezing response and allows you to move much more

Cannot sleep 😴
This sucks! I have always had issues with insomnia but now it seems a cruel twist of fate. I get to enjoy every possible moment . It may seem silly but I find the best way to cope with pain is to keep your mind off of it. Distract yourself, dress up. If you look good , you will feel better. Children

L Tyrosine may be helpful
My next attempt at relief is to try L Tyrosine is a non essential amino acid that is the precursor of the neurotransmitter, dopamine. Tyrosine is converted into Levodihydrophenylalanine (L-Dopa) and L-Dopa is subsequently and avidly converted into dopamine. More on the subject here:https://clinicaltrials.gov

PD subgroups and subtypes : Early Weight Loss
In PwP, weight loss, weight gain, and no significant change in weight represent a subgrouping. For a year or so before my dx as having PD (late 2011), I was losing weight, despite eating well. I lost 40% of my weight. Occasionally, an acquaintance would ask if I was OK, did I have cancer? (

Neupro patches
My husband was recently diagnosed so am fairly new to the medication side of things. He is on neupro 4mg patches, which I believe are dopamine agonists. His tremor\shakes have improved but he still shuffles when he walks. Someone has suggested he needs to take dopamine as well. We have a gp appt in a

The Ambulatory club-Delivery day
Hooray, after a 10 day delay because respiratory nurse forgot to send in Hoof form, the official club cylinders have been delivered. The nice young man from Air Liquide proudly advised me that it was his last day of service with the company and he was leaving to be a self employed electrician.Great thought

Why exercising on a treadmill can be unhealthy
“Dirty electricity” is a term recognized in scientific literature, and what the research is showing is that it’s all around us and impacting our health significantly. This article raises more questions then gives answers but it is good to be aware of this issue. For full text here is the link and then

PD subgroups and subtypes : preliminary comments, initial bibliography
The discussion of subgroups is important. "Subtypes" seems an equivalent word (1). Much subgroup research is occurring. FFindings in cite 8 surprised me. Several subtype cites have already been posted. The HU pd list will remain fragmented on this topic if and as individuals keep

RLS and Lactose?
Hello Everyone, It's been so good to discover this forum and read about everyone's struggle with RLS. I've had RLS since childhood (my parents remember me having to stand up in the car, or pulling over to let me walk around). But until now, it has been manageable to just get up and watch the movie standing

Compulsive spending
Hi guys Can I ask if anyone who treats their rls with dopamine agonists notices an increase in their shopping habits ie overspending for items not needed, I have noticed this for myself but when my family started to notice I realised there was a problem.

Insomnia and Relaxis pad questions?
My sleep problem for the last ten years has been that I can't go to sleep. I can be very tired or sleepy but just can't drop off. Have been treated for restless leg with dopamine agonists with some success. I am now on Horizant (I do suffer neuropathy in left foot) and hydrocodone 2.5 to 5 mg at night

The locus coeruleus story in PD: norepinephrinergic system, Zarow, hypertension, hypotension
This post is prompted by parkie13's description of blood pressure extremes. Is it possible that the BP extremes Mary described are being induced by PD pathology and not by more common causes? Damage to the locus coeruleus (aka ceruleus) often precedes and may exceed damage to the substantia nigra

Two tips to better walking
MUSIC One aspect of Parkinson's is the body's desire to be still, seen in bradykinesia, rigidity and freezing. Music can by pass the pre frontal cortex where the brain is saying 'don't move' and it can get us to move instinctively, passively which stimulates dopamine production from where our body can
