Has anyone else tried GABA?
I am bringing this up for discussion and as a recommendation. Since RLS people have a shortage of GABA in their brains and an excess of glutamate, it helps to understand what these substances are and do. They are both neurotransmitters your body produces (one from the other) and while glutamate is

Phase 1b clinical trial of gene therapy (by Voyager) has impressive success
A year ago, Roy Prop alerted us all to the clinical trial of Voyager Therapeutics. https://www.technologyreview.com/s/602193/manufacturing-dopamine-in-the-brain-with-gene-therapy/ Instead of kicking a dying horse, the Substantia Nigra, Voyager had the daring, clever idea of working with a nearby brain

So yesterday I went to see my neurologist and ......
By 2.30 he was running 1hr late. So I sat in the waiting area and thought " why the hell am I here". Everyone else needed his help . I was just adding to his backlog. I wanted advice on reducing 6mg Rotigotine patches . (I reasonably believe that my exercise routine including running

AGM 2017
I attended the 2017 AGM in London yesterday and learnt about Isometric exercise. I learnt how it increases muscle mass and as a consequence, Dopamine amounts. The exercises demonstrated targeted thigh and calf muscles. As always, I developed RLS last night and therefore used these exercises. Weather

The next step would be to categorize medications and are they helping your symptoms. You should be diagnosed for at least 3-4 years and there should also be the question are you

Champix…The choice..!!

Terminal density, terminal arbor size
Does anyone understand these terms and the likes of them and what their relevance to RLS might be? Here's three medical papers with such terms: "Effects of long-term treatment with dopamine receptor agonists and antagonists on terminal arbor size." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12372014 "D2 Dopamine

A second medication
Hi everyone. I'm after a bit of advice. I'm looking for something I can take for RLS a couple of times a week that it not an opiate. I already take codeine but can't take it every day due to tolerance build up-it just doesn't work when I do that.I don't want to take a dopamine agonist for fear of augmentation

Augmentation, opiates, benzodiazepines
I read a lot on here about the danger of augmentation with dopamine agonists and of switching to opiates. But from what I read, opiates are also dopamine agonists. My doc is probably about as keen to let me have opiates or even benzodiazepines as offer an alcohol a drink. I, myself, have thought occasionally

Tremor when excited/involved/emotional
Can someone please help me understand the science behind why I get all shaky when I'm in the spotlight? I'm not nervous or afraid, and it's one of the latest symptoms, in the past 8 to 10 weeks. I'm more gait dominant and don't have a tremor otherwise, but the more involved I am in a good conversation

Disco legs
Hi i am new to the forum but alas not to RLS or disco legs as my partner affectionately refers to it 😊. I have tried all the usual remedies with no joy. I did manage to get hold of some diazepam from a friend only 2mg dose which was amazing in aiding a good nights sleep. I asked the doctor for a prescription

ScienceofParkinsons, locus coeruleus, and norepinephrine
Although essays in ScienceOfParkinsons.com are informative, they merit scrutiny. Yes, atypicalities of alpha-synuclein and pathologies in dopaminergic processes are important, as are dopamine-related treatments. However, focusing entirely upon dopamine seems to be an error of omission

Stimulating dopamine production
I used to naively think one 'used up' dopamine when one moved. After all you need dopamine to move, but apparently the opposite is true. Any movement, even passive movement (when someone moves your limbs for example), stimulates dopamine production. And it's like a dynamo, the brain needs less stimulation

Neurotransmitter-nutrient relationship (from Dr. Walsh's book "Nutrient Power: heal you biochemistry, heal your brain")
On p.151 there is a table which lists 5 neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine, NMDA, GABA) and nutrients affecting them - in case some of you might be interested in looking at them, here are the ones affecting dopamine: Increased activity : tyrosine, phenylalanine, vitamins B1, B6,
