Sudden return of speech.
My dad has a diagnosis of PSP and is currently in a care home. He has lost all mobility, is peg fed, finds it difficult to open his eyes and has not spoken since July. Over the past couple of weeks he has suddenly started to speak again. While this is lovely, I am aware it will not last and so will

Augmentation
I guess I'm trying to determine if RLS augmentation is only experienced in those who have used dopamine agonists for a period of time? Or, do other classes of medications also cause augmentation to a degree? And last, how do we separate augmentation from the natural progression of untreated RLS? First

The Uric Acid Failure: Lessons Learned
RR = relative risk
Lesson one: Association ≠ Causation!
Mistaking association for causation is a major source of medical misunderstanding. It comes with real consequences, as we shall see. Observational studies can only find associations. Proving causation requires interventional studies

Natural remedies and food supplements
This is mainly a personal view of the usefulness of these for RLS, but is based on some reading. I hope it is a balanced view. Hopefully it offers some guidance for when you're choosing remedies. The 3 main things you should find out about when choosing a remedy. 1) EFFECTIVENESS : does it actually

MSA with Ambroxol HCL - a tentative success story!
Final edit update! Writing this 13/2/23. While our success with early ambroxol looked positive, her disease progression continued. At this point my guess is that it affects downstream symptoms, but only clinical trials will be able to say if it slows progression. Also, although it did greatly improve

Horizant for RLS
Does anyone here have experience of taking Horizant for RLS? After taking oxycodone 5 mg for many years, I have developed serious insomnia, therefore I'd like to switch to non-opioid to relieve my RLS symptoms. I'd like to know if anyone here have tried Horizant and if it is effective to relieve RLS

Drowning Us In Dopamine?
I don't subscribe to the Wall Street Journal, so I can only read headlines on Facebook, but not the actual article. I just saw this headline: Digital Addictions Are Drowning Us in Dopamine. "Yes, please", I thought with a smile. 😄😁😆😊

Aerobic Exercise: Evidence for a Direct Brain Effect to Slow Parkinson Disease Progression
Dr Ahlskog with a quick review of the studies which looked at the benefit of aerobic exercise for PWP (2018) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xFybA9udbo
Note, he ends with the most significant point. You need to take C/L such that you can move well and thus be able to exercise!

Coming off meds
Hi all fellow sufferers. I take 0.09mg mirapexin, 235mg magnesium and 1/2 teaspoonful Kratom every evening. Once a week I take just tramadol. My rls is not completely ok but I manage it. I've had it for about 30 years. I daren't drink wine and keep my sugar consumption low. My question is can I stop

Suspected PA
I'm so confused and GPs seem to have no idea what's going on, I even went to a neurologist to get tests done and she said the tests she did said I'm fine, that I'm clever and I'll be able to figure it out; this hasn't exactly been that useful in resolving my symptoms. I apologise in advance if this

Too Much D1...anyone? The untold (?) story behind augmentation
Let me preface (what's going to be an incredibly long post) with the fact that I know nothing about dopamine agonists or augmentation, except that the suffering it causes is more than I can bare. So first off, congrats to Kaarina, Jools, Elisse, Madlegs, Manerva and all those on here who tirelessly

caudate nucleus?
"In conclusion, PD and ET do not share a common pattern of dopaminergic loss over time. However, mild impairment of dopamine transporter in the caudate nucleus may contribute to tremor onset in ET." I've harped on this before. But I'm still not clear on PD diagnosis. Could this "mild impairment
