Is weight loss possible post transplant while on immunosuppressants?
I am almost 4 months post kidney transplant and I have gained over 15 kg. I have been exercising consistently and eating healthy for over 6 weeks now but my weight won’t budge at all. I have read that immunosuppressants can really mess with one’s metabolism and fat burning, and being 49 and likely

First Stem Cell Transplant Appointment done
Thanks to everyone who replied to my first post on this. My husband and I stayed over in Southampton and we got home today. To my great relief, the consultant was extremely approachable and excellent at explaining things. I didn't ask all of my questions as these initial discussions are being done over

A cute little leaflet with surprisingly grim recommendations.... "A full recovery can take anywhere from a week to several months. Contact your doctor if you experience prednisone withdrawal symptoms as you are tapering off the drug. .......... Current Guidelines • Patients be informed of the signs

First Appointment re Stem Cell Transplant
This week I have my first appointment with a stem cell transplant specialist. I haven't made up my mind yet and I'm seeing this as a fact finding appointment. I've made a list of questions to ask: What exactly does it involve, step by step? What can go wrong? And if something goes wrong, what is the

My PBC Journey
GI watched enzymes for 5 years 2015-2020. No symptoms except GI sent me to Ohio State in Dec of 2019 to make sure she wasn’t missing anything . Ordered MRI of liver—-best test to slice and dice liver. Found two spots of cancer on top ridge of liver and did a Microwave ablation to kill it. Successful

How are you living life with spouses both Vaccinated against Covid but one has a kidney transplant and one is healthy?
I cannot find direct information on this question where I am healthy and vaccinated against Covid19 and my spouse is vaccinated and has a kidney transplant but cannot make antibodies due to being on Cellcept antirejection med mainly. Do I live my life "normal" and he is living restricted like before

3rd dose vaccine
Just came across an interesting article stating the benefits of a 3rd vaccine shot given to organ transplant recipients . https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/L21-0282 In my limited understanding of the conclusions, it seemed to have resulted in a significant increase in antibody titers. Does anyone

Liver transplant
Hi my dad is 67 and a diabetic he was diagnosed with liver disease in April of this year and is in the process of scan after scan. He has passed the heart and lung/ fitness tests. A third dose of COVID-19 vaccine increased antibody levels in organ transplant recipients
The antibody response after 2 doses of an mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 is excellent in the general population, but the response is different in recipients of solid organ transplants. For example, we have found markedly attenuated antibody responses in transplant recipients after 2 doses of an mRNA

Three and a half years with Mantle cell lymphoma
I got diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma in March 2018 when I was 61. As it had already spread from my lymph nodes to multiple organs I was immediately admitted to hospital and began six rounds of Nordic protocol chemotherapy, followed by a stem cell bone marrow transplant. After my transplant I had

Nanoparticle therapy shows promise at preventing fatal newborn lung disease
The disease is so rare and complex that its acronym is hard to pronounce. But for infants unlucky enough to be born with this lung disease, the outcome is usually fatal. The disease is called alveolar capillary dysplasia with misalignment of the pulmonary veins (ACDMPV). Research indicates the disease

Impending surgery concerns
Impending knee replacement and worried about impact anesthesia and post surgery pain killers could have on already level 3 liver disease. Has anyone undergone orthopedic surgery and how did it go? What I don’t want to happen is to get a new knee and then need liver transplant because of meds.
