What is a normal GFR 6 months after a kidney transplant? Is fluctuation in your creatinine and GFR normal at this stage?

Dear Brownsfan22,
can I just say, before I answer your question..... Don't Panic, You Will Be Fine!
I don't Blame you for being, rather confused, 'everyone' giving Information- some of it apparently quite 'Contradictory'.
Relax, my friend, and take a 'Tip' out of my book..... I was Transplanted in July 2013, after almost exactly Four Years on Dialysis. The 'Results', to begin with are- almost inevitably 'All Over The Place'..... and, in the overall scheme of 'things' Six Months is really NOT long- especially if you 'Feel Well'.
Our Thoughts are with you, my friend.

Congrats on your transplant!!Most on this site will tell you it is pretty common for the first year for your creatinine to jump around. Those first two years I actually had 2-3 transplant biopsies. Nephrologist was concerned that it could be rejection with my increased creatinine. It never was but took awhile for my creatinine to be stable. Today I am 21+ years post transplant and my creatinine is very stable at 0.8 - 1.0.
Best of luck to you!
Hi the firs year at least there are many med adjustments and your labs will fluctuate especially creatinine and GFR Davw
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions, that is very reassuring to hear as I was very concerned.
I'm a new transplant as of June 14 this year. I received a living donor kidney, and had no previous antibodies, had never been on dialysis before - in short, I am extremely lucky and all outcomes were predicted to be less risky for me. On admission for surgery, my creatinine was 4.6, my GFR was 10%. At discharge it was 0.96. 3 days later it was 1.66 and GFR was only 58. I had/have a low-grade rejection treated with high dose steroids. It's been up and down since then and I have learned not only from my own experience as a nurse and a caregiver for my Dad who had 2 transplants that it can indeed be a roller coaster especially in this initial phase where my body is adjusting to the alien and the meds. My transplant coordinator told me to ignore GFR right now - that it is not a significant indicator of anything so soon post transplant. Also every individual can react differently to transplant - no matter the predicted outcomes. So it's been a lesson in patience for me and reminds me to look to the long game. Good luck to you!
Thank you for the response it makes me feel better to hear these stories.
