Congratulations! I received a living donor kidney transplant last December 9th and just passed my 6 month checkup. Things do get easier as you go along. Now I only have once a month checkups and usually do telehealth visits and get my labs done locally (I live an hour and a half away from my transplant center). I will still go to my nephrologist there every other visit. I was able to get my two Pfizer vaccines at 3 months post transplant and found out recently I did develop some antibodies against COVID-19. However, my doctor advised me to keep wearing the mask when out in public or if anyone comes into our house. My biggest problem is remembering to drink water, which hasn't been a problem lately with the heat and humidity! Take care!
Congratulations! I'm five years strong with my new kidney. I continue to do very well, and am happy with my transplant team nephrologist and regular nephrologist. Between the two I am seen twice a year. Now I just need to see my dermatologist every year to get the full body check up. I had not been doing that but my nephrologist said it's very important to be monitored for skin cancer every year and that I had better be "butt naked" when they check me. We immunocompromised patients are at much higher risk. I did have one neprohologist who said every other year would be fine, so I realized that not all dermatologist understand this greater risk in the transplant community.
Best wishes for continued success with your new kidney!
Congrats, thats my bday.
