High cholesterol
I was on statins for years as I had a bad family history. Came off then in may and just had my blood checked. My cholesterol was 6 and hdl was 1.3. I'm post menopausal. My blood pressure is normal. My Gp said this result was ok. Should I be starting back the statins?

Initial test results
I've finally managed to get hold of my initial test results that I had taken when I was diagnosed underactive. Please can someone take a look and tell me what you think. I don't think a lot of things were tested but I can ask for those in future. Serum Ferritin 8.8ug/l (10.0-291.0) Haemoglobin

I'll try to cut a very long story short but on a hunch that I was hypothyroid I took a blood test with Thriva back in March after a number of years of infertility. Results were a surprise to me and came back: TSH 0.01 range 0.27-4.3 FT4 31.67 range 12-23 T4 176.4 range 64.5 - 142 FT3 11.8 range 3.1

"Drug Aimed at Inflammation May Lower Risk of Heart Disease and Cancer"
That's the title of a piece in today's NY Times [1]. It must be a dozen years since someone told me that the men who have better survival are those with good albumin levels. Those with <4.0 don't do well. Since diagnosis, I use a lot of polyphenols, which inhibit NFkB. NFkB is chronically activated

Extreme Diets.
I define an extreme diet as one that flirts with deficiency of one or more essential nutrients. Sure, one can always take a pill to counter deficiency, but that would detract from the idea of an ideal diet meeting all of the needs of the body. Is there a place for an extreme diet when cancer is present

Good cholesterol May Not Be as Good as we think....
It has long been thought that a high level of "good" cholesterol in the blood, also known as HDL, is better for health. However, new European research is challenging this belief, suggesting that those with extremely high levels of good cholesterol have a higher mortality rate than people with normal

Feeling scared
Hi my name is Sue and I have just had a call from my doctors office to say that I have a cholesterol level of 8.7 and I have had to make an appointment. I have put on over 2 stone in 7 months and I have had enough stress to sink a ship. I know the weight is a factor but is the stress, which is ongoing

Low carb high fat diet effect on cholesterol
I have spent the last 10 weeks on a low carb high fat (LCHF) diet. Blood results before (in brackets) and after: Triglycerides 1.8 (3.1) LDL 2.2 (6.2) HDL 7.1 (1.7) Total cholesterol 9.3 (7.9) Total/HDL ratio 1.3 (4.6) As you can see, just 10 weeks on this diet and my blood lipids have improved enormously

High Cholestrol
Is high Cholestrol common in PBC patients? My Cholestrol increased by 24 points in 2 months even though the HDL and LDL ratio is still good. Both HDL and LDL are increased. Since 80% of the Cholestrol is produced by liver. I wonder if this is a sign of decreased liver function.

I am a 56 year old female 135 lbs 5'3" with high cholesterol. It has been high since I reached about 40 years of age and is hereditary. My cholesterol stays over 300 without statins, but statins hurt me. On and off for the past 16 or so years I have tried to take these, but the muscle pain has always
