High Cancer Treatment Costs Force Patients to Compromise on Care
A recent national survey in the United States, found that the financial burden of cancer treatment leads many patients to make potentially harmful medical care and lifestyle tradeoffs in order to pay for treatment. The survey was presented ahead of the Palliative Care in Oncology Symposium in Boston

Hospice Care Week
Hospices are places where everyone would prefer not to go to (yet), but that does not mean that they are dismal places. Far from it. They are experts in pain relief. St John's Hospice in St John's Wood (where I went yesterday, but not as a prospective patient) has been looking after some patients

Pancreatic cancer
My husband Michael was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer late May with a tumour the size of a satsuma. The oncologist only gave him a few weeks if they could not clear the jaundice but eventually a second stent cleared it. Michael was offered to go on chemo and try to shrink the tumour in the hope

Palliative Care- is chemo a necessary evil?
Bob's oesophagectomy was abandoned after two carcinogenic tumours were found in each lobe of his liver. The Consultant has told us that radiotherapy isn't appropriate and they may have a problem with which chemo regimen to offer as Bob developed saddle PEs and neutropenia after ECF and the adenocarcinoma
