Parkinson's PLUS +
I am trying to determine if a person diagnosed long ago with P.D. who found relief by taking PD medication can develop Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. I had a friend that was diagnosed with PD a bit later than me and the PD medication helped him but not as much as it helped me. Later years he was

Why do I have to take levodopa so frequently?
Short answer: Once levodopa gets into your bloodstream (after being absorbed in your digestive tract), it doesn’t last long … most of it is gone after about 2-3 hours, and then you need to take more. The resulting rapid oscillations in blood levels of the drug are responsible for both on-off cycling

Parkinson’s and Protein
“I explored diets and after realizing I was generally doing worse if I ate a lot of meat, I looked into vegetarian diets…. What a difference it makes for me.” —GAIL J., PWP You may have heard about protein being a no-no in the Parkinson’s diet. This is only partially true. The problem is that because

Getting the Most Out of Medications
“My husband has Parkinson’s, and we just got a new doctor a couple of months ago. Bob has been taking Sinemet ever since he was diagnosed. He always takes his meds first thing in the morning, then eats his breakfast. He has not been doing very well for some time…. Anyway, the doctor told him NOT to

PD Effect on Sleep
“My wife had trouble sleeping due to restless legs and being awakened by vivid and disturbing nightmares. Fortunately, this condition seems to have been fixed with a prescription from the neurologist. The clonazepam pills have all but eliminated that problem.” —ED C., PARKINSON’S CAREGIVER It is common

When Anxiety Strikes
“One [thing] I have learned is to live for the day and the moment rather than looking back to the past or worrying about the future. I also have discovered that it is best to live within my limitations—to step back and take things easy if I’m having a bad day. Otherwise I only find myself frustrated

Adrenaline dominance
https://theenergyblueprint.com/adrenaline-dominance-dr-michael-platt/ This is kind of interesting and a different theory. This doctor believes adrenaline is the root cause of many problems. I think it’s interesting because dopamine is broken down by beta hydroxylase to norepinephrine then by PNMT to

Finding some negatives on Berberine (I will keep digging)
EDIT March 17, 2024:
Today somebody shared a link to a two year old post of mine about a report on Berberine being neurotoxic and taking it off of my stack. Within a few months I found other information on Berberine and, using my High School educated brain, decided that Berberine definitely needed

An Update of Palmitoylethanolamide and Luteolin Effects in Preclinical and Clinical Studies of Neuroinflammatory Events
Recently, Brotini has reported the potential efficacy of co-um-PEALut treatment as adjuvant therapy for patients with PD receiving
carbidopa
/
levodopa
in treating camptocormia, a postural deformity common in PD in which the spine bends forward while walking or standing.

Phosphodiesterase 9 inhibition prolongs the antiparkinsonian action of l-DOPA in parkinsonian non-human primates
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35461880/ These results indicate that cGMP upregulation interacts with dopamine signaling to enhance the l-DOPA reversal of parkinsonian motor disability. Therefore, striatal PDE9 inhibition may be further explored as a strategy to improve motor responses to l-DOPA in

Meds
I had a successful kidney transplant on 2/11/21 however at that time I was also diagnosed with Parkinsonism and put on
Carbidopa
/
Levodopa
. I have struggled since then with agitation and jitters. Maybe on too many meds or the wrong ones.

Maybe why we wait for a cure
I think I may have previously posted some of this story My first Neurologist was a brilliant doctor and brain surgeon and expert in the cardiovascular system. He was head of cardiology at a world class hospital and known around the world. My M.D. went to school with him and they were good friends

Levodopa storage
A rather dry topic but where do people store their medication in hot weather? Apparently Madopar should not be stored above 26 deg c, (79f), Sinemet- some sources say keep below 25c. As the needle now edges 30 c in the UK, and anytime on holiday in the Mediterranean or Caribbean, not easy without AC.

Adjusting Carbidopa levodopa 25 to 100 mg
I was currently taking 1 + 1/2
Carbidopa
levodopa
in the morning. 1
Carbidopa
levodopa
in the afternoon in one pill in the evening. I began to notice these symptoms since the extra half of Carbidopa was added in the morning.

Pain, Stenosis, C/L and Parkinson
Cervical stenosis of the neck and spine of the back. The neck is more acute than the back. I am taking generic Caridopa / Levodopa 2 tabs 100/25 every 4 hours Taking a C/L tablet help relieve pain for 3-4 hours. I'm wondering which of these two paths seems to be more accurate? 1) C/L tablet
