Scratching your head for the origin of Parkinsons - is there a common link between Dandruff and PD ?
This Canadian-Spanish team examines the hypothesis that the micro-fungus, Malassezzia which causes dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis (SD) xould get into the brain and damage cells. The association between the two conditions may also be due to a common factor that helps promote both conditions. Not

APL-130277 still without FDA Approval: Why?
Apomorphine is a somewhat strange Dopamine Agonist (non-egoline DA Parky B!) that required subcutaneous injections. It certainly hasn't been a mainline DA prescription in the USA. Sunovian developed back in 2012 a 2 part sublingual film that was applied under the tongue to reduce the difficulties of

Levodopa and CYP3A4, but probably not Grapefruit juice... The next steps
The next step in my research will be to help set up a "Proof of Concept" trial, hopefully with an international team of experts in pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, drug development and Parkinson's disease. This means scientifically answering the following question (or something like it). "Does inhibition

Does Magnesium, especially L-Threonate cancels out levadopa effect?
Hi, My PD friend has leg / foot cramp and I suggested Magnesium, but she said it cancels out levodopa (c/l). Any suggestion please? Thanks.

Please spell it out for me.
I currently take 2 tablets of generic for Sinemet 25mg
carbidopa
100mg
levodopa
4 times per day at about 6 a.m., noon, 6 p.m. and midnight or when I wake during the night. I am also doing the HCL thiamine and after much experimentation settled on 1 500mg capsule in the a.m.

Homocysteine: friend or foe?
Those who are canny will recognize that homocysteine levels can be elevated by taking levodopa, and this may lead to unwanted health side effects. (There are things you can do to mitigate this.) However, does mean that homocysteine is just bad? Maybe not. Have a peek the interconnected Methylation

C/L CR with food?
Many places it is written to avoid taking C/L with food. I think this to avoid the C/L absorption problems when the meal contain protein, and also, I guess if you take the C/L immediately after a large meal, it could be a while before the C/L reaches the small colon (where it can be absorbed)... But

Cause of dyskinesia? Parkinsons or carbilev? Advice about amantadine?
I am on half 100/25 c/l more or less every 6 hours. I am fine during the day but I have to get up and move during the night or I end up jerking hopelessly for hours. Last night I was up from 12 to 1.30 and again at 4 am. When I told the neuro that I feel cl does nothing for me (my tremor gets worse

Wallowing in the Trough of Carbidopa and Benserazide
I hesitate to even start a thread that is heresy to many, many PD sufferers, many self proclaimed pharmacologists/biochemists on this forum and many of their physicians as well. It is all about a couple of PD drugs that can go very deadly if used inappropriately. Please realize, if you can do so, that

Barlowe's herbals elixirs Macuna Pruriens
Seed extract 650mg. 40% PILL form it's white, I thought I was getting the whole herb which is brown, this looks like it's pure L-dopa. Has anyone tried this, and how much would replace 25/100 cardopa/levadopa. I take 2 25/100 every 3 half hours. I would like to try cutting back one pill and replace

PD Without Rigidity.
Are there any PWP here that don't have rigidity? I don't mean body stiffness but mean no trouble with handwriting, no cogwheel rigidity in any joints? I have stiff neck 24/7 and axial (central body) stiffness that affects walking making me slow and off balance but no rigidity as yet. L-Dopa relieves

Artificial sweetened Cola drinks rapid relief?
Hi, i was dx with PD in 2014, and started out with selegilin and Requip (dopamin agonist), later adding L-DOPA (Madopar/Sinemet) and entakapon. Altogether enabling me to work full time, and I am convinced this would not be possible without such a «cocktail». Still, episodes of fatigue with loss

Gut microbes interfere with Parkinson's drug - but we could stop them
For this reason, people with Parkinson’s usually take
levodopa
in combination with another drug,
carbidopa
, that inhibits the break down. https://www.newscientist.com/article/2206501-gut-microbes-interfere-with-parkinsons-drug-but-we-could-stop-them/

Anyone taking B6? Notice any improvements?
However, the use of
carbidopa
with
levodopa
reduces the vitamin B6-depleting effects of levodopa. More research is needed to determine whether vitamin B6 supplementation is advisable when taking carbidopa."

More pieces to the puzzle about getting a more stable supply of levodopa to the brain
Here is my latest article about how the CYP3A4 enzyme metabolises levodopa and controls its bio-availability and haf-life. It is based on a 50-day cycle (n=1) during which CYP3A4 was alternatively non-inhibited and inhibited. The results confirm that CYP3A4 powerfully inhibits levodopa and may be more

Grapefruit juice is more than a CYP3A4 inhibitor
Just found this timely article all about Grapefruit for Parkinson's, except effects on levodopa, 'cos it hasn't been tested. Conclusion : it's good for your brain, but could be dangerous, so if in doubt, don't drink it. https://www.salubrainous.com/grapefruit-for-parkinsons/
