Starting heparin and warfarin tomorrow - what can I expect?
After a stroke 8 years ago and several years of feeling increasingly I'll I've finally had SLE with secondary APS and Reynaulds confirmed. Bloods done in June and repeated in September showed increasing evidence. Finally got to see a haematologist last Friday (still waiting for appt at St Thomas') and

police custody access to reliever inhalers
As first aid trainer for the Police I have always stressed the importance of taking asthma attacks very, very seriously. In the past our custody blocks have had ventolin inhalers stored safely for any prisoner to use if they asked for it We have many many many asthmatic coming through. We now have a

Are my swollen, red, puffy eyes a symptom of autoimmune hepatitis?
Hi all. I was seen by a gastroenterologist in July following a 'hepatic episode' of deranged LFT's, mild jaundice and a significantly positive ANA. This episode had settled by the time i was seen but the consultant said she was almost certain that this was an indicator of autoimmune hepatitis. She did

Hello, minor breakthrough today.
Amazing just finished eating, cleared things away, did a few jobs and then realised that I hadn't thought of a cigarette just before I finished eating and immediately after! Is the worm turning a bit at last I wonder? Lets hope so. Back to odd dreams again though as you all warned! Thursday night train

I am going to have 2 weeks intensive leg bandaging in hospital but they want me to have restricted fluids and take diuretics.
Everything I have read about taking water tablets to reduce fluid retention in lymphoedema patients says it doesn't work and it could even make things worse. I would be grateful if anyone could let me know if this will be safe for me, and if there is a LSN 'policy' or some guidance notes on this issue

Strain Reviews: Indica and Indica Dominant Cannabis for Sleep Aid and Pain Relief
Working at a medical marijuana dispensary in Denver has allowed me to see a wide variety of people, who all use cannabis for different reasons. One of the most common things patients tend to look for is a strain or two that will help them to sleep at night, either because of chronic pain or insomnia.

You guys will probably be able to relate to this :)
So I'm clumsy and while making dinner I burnt my hand on the oven. First aid skills here - run it under cold water for 10 mins. So I weigh up which is worse : slight burn or raynauds maybe chilblain. Dinner was far more tempting than the cold water so I just left it. It's the little things that others

My Mini adventure - the Oxford Half Marathon
On Saturday I celebrated it being a year since I graduated C25K. Yesterday, Sunday, I completed my first ever serious race, the Oxford half marathon. I woke up with a mixture of excitement and nerves, got ready, managed to eat most of my breakfast and headed out with hubby to pick up my friend who

The flu vaccine for APS patients in the UK
The flu vaccine is available now at most GP practices in the UK. As APS is a long-term condition, the majority of GPs advise that we have the vaccine. If you do chose to have the flu jab, most APS patients do not have any adverse reactions and it is considered safe and effective. However, if you are

I am due to have a pic line fitted soon?
My veins are being difficult and keep hiding from the chemo nurses (little devils) and it has been suggested I have a pic line fitted for the remaining two chemos and for the months of Avastin. Any tips would be helpful. I am a little worried about the fact I already have a PUlmonary embolism. Jill

Hair Loss - options?!
Hi Ladies, Well, my mum's 6 month check up showed that it's back, so fighting gloves back on... This time, they'll probably use a combi drug - the side effect of which is hair loss. Can I ask, do any of you know if hair loss is a 'definite' side effect, or if it's a 'possible' side effect? Also, assuming

Does the flu vaccine affect Warfarin
I expect we will all be going for our Flu "jabs" very soon, and I wondered if the vaccine affects how Warfarin works. Last year I was on weekly/fortnightly checks so did not query this. Now, however, I am on 10 weekly checks and wanted know if I should make an earlier appointment with the Warfarin

Have you taken Xarelto (rivaroxaban)?
Another request - please get in touch if you can relate to this and live in the UK: - We are looking for someone with AF who is willing to tell their story to the media and be photographed. Ideally they would be on warfarin or aspirin and have been refused a novel oral anticoagulant (dabigatran, rivaroxaban
