Can someone please list all the vitamins (including calcium, because I am a woman) that are helpful to take daily for RLS including the amount to take daily, strengths, and times of day to take them? I'm confused because I know you have to be careful not to take magnesium with other things, iron, vitamin D, folic acid (?), etc. Thank you so much!

If your diet is healthy and balanced, the only vitamin you really may need, especially if you are over 50, is vit D. But have it checked first. Also, of you are on a vegan diet, B12 is almost impossible to get enough of through you diet, and you will need supplementing.

For RLS, the mineral iron is key, as it is widely accepted that brain iron deficiency is causing RLS. To get enough iron in your brain when you suffer RLS, you most often need to increase your overall iron. Many people with RLS benefit from taking iron (bisglycinate) every other day just before bed. Iron for RLS has been researched extensively and shown to be at least somewhat but often quite effective for many. Anecdotical evidence also mentions effectiveness of magnesium. I don't know about dosing, but follow standard advises on bottles. As magnesium may hinder the uptake of several medicines, it is best to take it at least 2h apart from any other medicine, mineral or vitamin etc you take.

Other vitamins and minerals you may only benefit from supplementing is when their level in your body is below the normal range or just quite low within the normal range. It is always good to have that assessed first. Otherwise you will mainly be spending money without real benefit for you or your RLS. Although, don't underestimate the power of placebo.

Hope this helps.

I want to take iron. Store bed but that is when I take my BP and cholesterol meds. Is there an issue with taking the iron at the same time ?

I take magnesium but mainly for cramps. I started taking some magnesium compound that I forget the details of but it made my RLS worse. I have now switched to magnesium biglycinate and my cramps are much reduced. My RLS is almost gone because of my diet so I can't judge whether the Magnesium biglycinate is doing my RLS any good or harm. I try to remember to take my magnesium mid afternoon so its away from any other medicine. I think it has to be clear of any statins but I'm not sure . If you are taking blood pressure or cholesterol medicines then ask your doctor, specialist and your pharmacist to make certain.

For a woman, vitamin K2-mk7 is important as it regulates where calcium is deposird. It keeps calcium out of the vascular system and in the bones where you need it. Magnesium is important as it is involved in so many bodily functions and our food contains less due to modern farming methods. Take magnesium around half an hour before bedtime as it aids sleep.

Iron - of course

Vitamin D - I test low, where I live that’s normal

Homemade Kefir - gut health

I have also been taking PharmaGaba and Taurine at night with some good results so far. (Helps me sleep)

Looks like a no sugar January for our family. It didn’t help last year, but I still hope for the best.
