My RLS is triggered by / caused by / brought on by......

Worriedanddesperate profile image

I'm starting this post to try to develop an easy list that RLS sufferers can easily search this forum and find and then scan the reply list to see what things affect other people's RLS symptoms. Things that sufferers have found out for themselves cause their RLS.

Can you please only reply with this format

..... Food or drink item or circumstance.

Please use 4 or 5 words maximum. Don't elaborate ir make a long post. Please do that in a separate new post.

Please don't reply asking questions or clarifying or challenging, or confirming, or commenting etc as that will damage the way this should work. If you want to do that please start a separate post, or contact the poster specifically. Please only state the item that you know causes your RLS.

Please only post once. Not with lots of different things. Leave space for others to make a contribution.

Don't post things you've read, please post only something you personally know affects your body re RLS.

Please look at the replies and don't add things that have already been stated !

Thank you for you help with this. I hope it helps folks. I won't comment on this thread again, only...

I'll try to post first to set show the required format ....

'Diet' drinks and foods - artificial sweeteners were triggers, esp aspartame.

Sugary foods and drinks in excess, particularly in evenings

Caffeine, particularly in evenings

Dehydration

Lack of regular moderate exercise

Too warm in bed

Sleeping on my back

Statins

Other triggering medications such as those containing sedating antihistamines

Do you have a friend or family member who can advocate for you?I am now extremely worried for you!

You cannot just stop Ropinirole Cold turkey!!!!!

It could kill you.

You are in your 70s.

Please, please get an URGENT appointment and take a family me.ber or friends and a print out of the RLS-UK withdrawal schedule AND the new NICE cks guidance.

A member died last year due to the complete lack of knowledge and ignorance of her GP and neurologist.

She was, like you, suffering severe drug-induced worsening of her RLS and her neurologist had zero idea how to help.

She fell over from exhaustion trying to walk off severe augmented RLS.

She died from a bleed on the brain.

But actually her doctors' ignorance and negligence caused her unnecessary death.

You cannot go cold turkey off Ropinirole!!!

And melatonin and Nortryptiline are an absolute NO NO for RLS.

I am so angry on your behalf.

This is Medical negligence.

Here is an email of a solicitor who can help.

Kimberley.Bradfield@switalskis.com

Please email Kimberley and explain you are suffering drug-induced worsening on Ropinirole and a negligent neurologist and GP have suggested you go cold turkey and start drugs that are listed on NHS and NICE as contraindicated.

She will act on a no win /no fee basis.

Email her now.

This is really negligent, dangerous medical advice.

Tell your GP you are contacting a medical negligence solicitor because they are ignoring NHS and NICE guidance.

What specialist? Did the specialist advise that?

Please, please do as Jools says or find another doctor if possible. I came off ropinarole cold turkey, not on medical advice but purely because of compulsive behaviour side effects and augmentation. It was before I discovered this forum. I had hallucinations and banged my head on bedside table breaking a lamp because I feel asleep while sitting on edge of bed moving my feet. I would never advise anyone to go cold turkey and more so if you are over 70 as I know my balance in not so good these days and the brain fog from days with zero sleep is dangerous. Take care
