When to Take Vitamins

I take my vitamins (magnesium, potassium ad b12) in the morning with breakfast and my iron supplement in the afternoon at least an hour before dinner. I self prescribed the first 3 vitamins based on my early readings on RLS, but never considered taking them at different times to be more beneficial. I'd like to get an idea of when others in the group are taking their's.

I've found that taking magnesium before bedtime works better for me because it reduces the frequency and intensity of morning leg cramps.

Thank you Eryl. I do fight with some leg cramping, so nighttime magnesium may help.

I take vitamin c with iron as it is required for iron absorption, and not with calcium food as this blocks iron absorption. Plus drinking tea is also said to impair iron absorption so avoid either side for 30 mins or so.

I also find magnesium before bed is helpful.

Good to know about the tea! I have been taking my iron with my afternoon cuppa which also has milk in it. I don't take Vitamin C, but will start. Do you take your iron and C in the morning? I had a feeling people were going to say they were taking the magnesium at night. I've got some changes to make! Thank you!

Milk also dampens absorption as well as alcohol! :)

I don't either, never did. Now I don't do a lot of things thanks to RL!!! Even laying down when I feel sick is not always possible and that's just not fair! Just feeling a bit sick now, some virus or other, and my legs won't let me lay down so feeling very hard done by. :(

Good luck with working out when and how to take your drugs and supplements. :)

you should always take magnesium at night .it helps you to sleep so taking it during the day won't be as beneficial. I take mine right before bed along with a few oother things. B12 always take mornings or daytime. I have to take it with food though it upsets my stomach. I take a lot of vitamins and supplements and I take a lot of them at lunch and dinner as they need to be taken with food. Also if you take Turmeric and any fish oils always take them with some kind of fat because it makes them work better.

Re magnesium, I believe that it can impair the absorption of some drugs, Gabapentin/Pregabalin especially so needs to be taken separately to medication...ask your pharmacist if you’re unsure

Very important info...it sure can be difficult getting meds and vitamins down, when worrying about whether to eat or not or when to take other meds!
