Today is the day I became a non smoker!

Hi guys, today was the day I became a non smoker, I feel excited/nervous, I read a book by Allen Carr last night called the easy way to stop smoking and the points made absolute sense, I am finding it ok so far but am currently cooking my dinner and feel a little anxious about how I may feel once I have finished it (usually I would have a fag after dinner) anyway I hope I continue to feel ok like this, I expect ups and downs but hopefully it is goodbye forever to the fags!!! :)

today was the day I also became a non smoker

I looked into buying that book last night but decided against it just in case it was a pile of rubbish.

have you ever tried to stop before?

I also worried a bit after eating my lunch and tea but managed ok, just went and put dishes away and did other things instead

Ah we'll done Sarah :) I was quite skeptical about it but it certainly does give you some good ways of looking at certain situations, like changing your mind set. I have not tried to stop before, have you? Yeah. I'm going to tidy the kitchen once I've finished

Good luck in your effort to stop Ashtonpat, I hope you succeed, are you using any NRT to help you through the hard time,s? Alan Carrs book seems to help some people, so mybe everytime you crave a ciggy go back and read a chapter to remind yourself that you can do it. Keep yourself busy when the going get,s tough and each day should get easier for you. You WILL stop if you want to.

Hiya Ashtonpat, a massive welcome to this lovely site :) :)

So its your first time quitting then :) ace gal just ace, but i will tell you to try your hardest this time :) cos it gets harder the more times you try :o :(

I'm on my 5th attempt, and I tell you its harder now than my first quit :( so erm try to keep focused and positive on your quit, and ask yourself why ?? you want to quit :o and keep reminding yourself of that :) I wrote a blog a few days ago about why I wanted to quit, and this is that, maybe you have a few more to add to it :)

Good morning everybody guess what !! it's not raining nope am not fibbing, it's dry and bright here in Derbyshire hmmmmmm dont know how long for though whats it like in your neck of the Country ??

Have you got any exiting plans for today ?? I've got some serious zzzzzzzzing to do in a bit, not sure what am doing after that

I've been getting prepared for my quit date this morning and this is what I have come up with have you got any other ways of getting prepared - focused for your quit date ??

Why I want to smoke !!

1) They help me when I get stressed out. ( Although this might just be psychological )

2) They help me think. ( here again this might just be psychological )

3) It’s easier than quitting.

Why I want to quit smoking !!

1) Better health.

2) Coughing and spluttering.

3) Walk up stairs without getting out of breath.

4) Whiter teeth

5) Breath not smelling of fags

6) Clothes not smelling of fags

7) Better complexion. ( Smooth skin, More colour, Less wrinkles )

8) Better circulation in my hands and feet

9) Better health all round

10) Have money to spend on what I WANT TO ( Not having to put money aside for fags )

11) Getting my taste back

12) Not having a Furry tongue

13) Getting my sense of smell back

14) No standing outside in the cold and wet

15) Not having to think if I have enough fags to last me the day

16) No yellow fingers

17) Not having to carry a pack of fags and a lighter around with me

This is how I get ready and focused for my next quit date, I am sure that you could come up with some more, either for or against smoking, so get thinking, so I can put them on my list and get flippin focused, thank you.

Please use our daily chat to let us know how you are doing with your quit attempt, at whatever stage you are at - Planning, preparing, quitting, staying stopped and even relapsing....

However, if you have any specific questions, then please still post in the questions section, or if you want to blog separately on your quit story then please do so.

Remember, that any questions that you have may help others wondering the same thing.

Soooo..... chat away!

Hope to speak soon Pete :) :)

I might have to check if it's in the library, just a tad skint at them moment so better no buy it!

this is about the hundredth time of stopping smoking but the second serious time of stopping, I got on well a couple of years ago, stopped for 6 weeks but started again because I got cocky and stopped taking the tablets!!

that wont happen this time though

Good luck to you Ashtonpat and hope you manage well with the right frame of mind and support

You could try Amazon, sometimes the marketplace will have people selling their second hand books for just 1p but postage is about £2.75 I think.

Do you have a kindle? Amazon were giving it away for free a few weeks ago, check it up!!!

Just to let you know I stopped smoking the EASYWAY too and that was back in Feb. Well Done. Just remember that in about 3 weeks time the little monster will be dead and you will be free :)
