¦Pistachios are rich source of energy; 100 g of nuts contain 557 calories. Nonetheless, the nuts contain many health benefiting nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins that are essential for optimum health.

¦The nuts are rich in mono-unsaturated fatty acids like oleic acid and an excellent source of antioxidants. Regular intake of pistachios in the diet help to lower total as well as bad LDL cholesterol and increase good HDL cholesterol levels in the blood. Research studies suggest that Mediterranean diet that is rich in dietary fiber, mono-unsaturated fatty acids, and antioxidants help to prevent coronary artery disease and strokes by favoring healthy blood lipid profile.

¦They are rich source of many phyto-chemical substances that may contribute to their overall antioxidant activity, including carotenes, vitamin E, and polyphenolic antioxidant compounds. Research studies have been suggestive of that these compounds help body remove toxic oxygen free radicals and thus, protect body from diseases, cancers, as well as infections.

¦Pistachios are an excellent source of vitamin-E, especially rich in gamma-tocopherol; contain about 23g per100 g. vitamin E is a powerful lipid soluble antioxidant, essential for maintaining the integrity of cell membrane of mucus membranes and skin; offers protection from harmful oxygen free radicals.

¦The nuts are packed with many important B-complex groups of vitamins such as riboflavin, niacin, thiamin, pantothenic acid, vitamin B-6, and folates.

¦These nuts are storehouse of minerals like copper, manganese, potassium, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, and selenium. 100 g nuts provide 144% of daily-recommended levels of copper. Copper is an essential trace mineral that is required in neuro-transmission, metabolism, as well as red blood cell (RBC) synthesis.

Just a hand full of pistachios a day provides enough recommended levels of phenolic anti-oxidants, minerals, vitamins, and protein.

I find these nuts quite scary as they are green :o 500 calories in 100g - eek. Personally I am lacking Vitamin D as in serious sunshine deficiency over a period of years. To the extent I am in grave danger of succumbing to rickets and thus would be unable to stop any fleeing pig that should hasten to trot down our entry. :D :D Seriously though I think the weather is disturbing me far more than nicotine withdrawal, I am sooooooo fed up now. 1 stinking lousy decent day up to now this year, strangely on a bank holiday Monday. As for the weather today, well it's just serious sticking your head in the gas oven, losing the will to live inducing weather, it's just sat there hanging, couldn't even be ar*ed to rain. YAAAAAGHHH. :( :(

Still, tomorrows forecast is a blistering 19 degrees, wait for it............feels like......22. A sub-tropical day OMG, get the bikini out, get the bbq out, get the suncream out - oh wait I haven't got any, oh never mind, get the bikes out, get the lawn mower out...... for it may be August before we have another warm day.

yes I know what you mean about the weather though :( I love the sun myself, and it does perk me up :) :)

Some people suffer from lack of sun though dont they, erm am not sure what it is called, but they need sun lamps :o I will go paddling the net to see if I can find it :o

:) You have to laugh don't you otherwise we'd just cry buckets. It's called appropriately SAD - Seasonal Affective Disorder. And as we no longer have seasons, just one long dreary cloud and cold all year round I have chronic SAD. Seriously beginning to think I won't live long enough to ever witness a decent summer ever again. Was looking at old photo's with my mum this morning. How we chortled when we saw a piccie of the front of my mums house with all the windows wide open on a hot summers day - certainly not something I've witnessed for a good few years, still taking a flipping hot water bottle to bed at the mo.


Well I`m well in front, 1, I am totally nuts, 2, I am a very sad person BUT happy and smoke free.

except for the pan I have just burnt the bottom out of.
