Well I'm on week 3 post Op. All good. Operation went well. Ended up in theatre for 2 hours to repair bladder and bowel prolapse. I opted not to have pelvic floor therapy or pessaries but to go straight to surgery. Best choice ever. In and out. Catheter in for one night and packing. Removed next morning and then bladder scanned after each wee to check it was emptying ok. Went home following evening after having spinal anaesthesia, yes I was awake throughout listening to music on my iPod. No pain. First two weeks are critical and you basically take painkillers and rest. I weaned myself off dyhydrococeine within a few days and continued on paracetamol and Ibuprofen. Gradually weaned myself off and by week 3 just take paracetamol if needed. No pain just just a few prickles now and again. I've spent last two weeks resting, no lifting and adapting life to accommodate this. Lots of sunbathing in garden and listening to music. By week 2 I was able to prepare meals and potter around the house. By week 3 I've actually been up to the shops and walked round supermarket - no lifting, with husband. I feel like I've turned a corner this week but still not overdoing things....6 weeks recovery, doctor's orders. I may even drive my car next week if all ok. Doing gentle jobs now and feeling great. I do not regret having to surgery one bit. I am able to use the bathroom normally and can't believe the difference. I can use my bowels ok and was initially prescribed a liquid laxitive to help with stitches healing. So overall I am saying don't put up with inconvenience and pain. The surgery is available and my experience is positive and I don't regret it one bit . (UK)

Anterior and Posterior surgery all done
So glad all went well for you... was just wondering if you have had a full hysterectomy some years ago?
hi so can you stay awake then if you have the operation I got given a choice because I got the Same has you but I got 3 prolapse but am want to be a wake I thought they put you to sleep thanks
Julie2828 I had Spinal Anaesthesia instead of General Anesthetic. I had injection in my spine which immediately paralysed me from the waist down to my toes. I felt no pain or discomfort throughout the operation and led on my back focused on the faces and lights above listening to old tunes through earplugs. It was a relaxed experience. I got cold at one stage and a heated quilt was placed over the top half of my body to warm me up...pulled it up over my chin. The anesthesic wore of approx an hour after surgery and no after effects. I had a catheter in overnight and packing in my vagina and compression wraps pumping my lower legs. All fine next day...I was using the toilet ok and walking around. Just felt a bit hyper 🥴
or that’s brilliant news am just scared of being put to sleep don’t no why just am x
Thank you for this - Ive just had the same problem diagnosed x
How good to read about a positive outcome
I am due to have surgery in the autumn for a rectocele … I have tried everything, including a Pessary and feel somewhat apprehensive , but reading your account makes me feel far more confident !!! Please keep up the running commentary .
Thankyou for posting this as having surgery soon and really worried, eased my mind a little
Hi Happy to read your post I am still in the first 2 weeks post op and resting trying hard not to do to much but hard when you are a active 81 years old lady and very independent can you rely me if I am allowed to bend etc I know no lifting but pottering about the house and doing small light jobs and hoping I am doing the right thing
Thank you
Be cautious bending over. I found it a bit uncomfortable. You don't want to burst your stitches. Mine still haven't Disolved after 7 weeks. I was told no lifting. I was very cautious first 6 weeks. Used a plastic jug to fill kettle or saucepans. Didn't lift heavy frying pans. No heavy lifting of shopping. Just decant everything carefully. Takes longer but be cautious. No mopping floors or hoovering either or putting heavy bins out.
