How likely is for a grade 2 Anterior and Posterior Prolapse to become grade 3 and need surgery?

I finally say a urogynecologist .He examined me and said I have grade 2 prolapse. He said my pelvic floor muscle seems strong .I have done work with great women physios for 4-5 months. I can see the difference it had made but still the consultant said it is likely I will need surgery in 1-2 years and I found it a bit strange. It seemed a bit too precise to me. How can he tell?!

I think if I get worse, I will try the loop / pessaries. Can they help delaying surgery?

I would appreciate any experience about prolapse surgeries. Maybe they are not as scary as I think.

Hi , I can't help with advice on how your prolapse will progress, I'm sure your work with a physio will help delay it. I have had a prolapse for over 10 years, it is anterior and posterior grade 3/4. I have used a ring pessary for most of this time with great success. I am still able to lead an active life without discomfort. i have spoken to people who have had surgery, it seems to be a very mixed result, not always successful. Good luck.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.Yes,I also think I can still do things and I was surprised the doctor suggested surgery in a year or two.My other question was it is one of those procedures that you better do while your body in younger to heal? But I also see many people doing the surgery at an older age and heal fine from it.So maybe not to rush for now

I had the same dilemma as you a number of years ago, but being as the ring is successful, and only needs to be changed every 6months I’ve decided that any op carries a risk, no matter how small.

Can I ask if intercourse is possible and comfortable with a ring pessary?

Hi, Does the ring pessary also help in controlling the posterior prolapse (rectocele)? I have grade 2 posterior prolapse and try to avoid constipation but keep worrying about occasional strain. Does the pessary help with classic symptom of rectocele which is incomplete bowel evacuation?

Thanks so much!

Hi Walkerforlige ,I have exact same question. I am going to ask the consultant whenever I have the phone appointment .I assume pessary is more suitable when prolapse is from bladder side?

Hi again,I met my physio and she said she is going to refer me to their Pessary clinic. She admit that pessaries are less likely to work for Posterior prolapse but she also mentioned it depends on the type of pessary used. She said it still worths trying.
