Hi, Help please on 11/3/21 I had the following surgery Vaginal hysterectomy.anterior and posterior repair.

Findings Grade 3 uterine descent.Grade 3 cystocele, grade3 rectocoele.

I am 74 s old not overweight and phsically active. I also have CMT1A a form of Muscular Dystophy,

I had bowel problems after surgery returning to hospital for an enema 5days after surgery . Things have settle now and I am functioning normally. My bleeding stopped within a week of the operation.

For a year before surgery I had various pessaries which held things in place although very uncomfortable. Consult was reasuring telling me they were in the correct position.Surgery was a last resort.

I get no pain apart from the following.

I still have the same discomfort as before surgery. Just as if I were riding a horse with my vagina pushed hard against the pommel of a sadle. with burning sensation. Pain killers have no effect. I have tried a ring cushion feather cushion to no avail. Luckily sleeping is not a problem.

I do understand the success rate for my procedure is not good.

Is it too early to expect things to be normal? Should I contact consultant before next appointment?

Should I be worried. I have a check up booked for 2months after surgery.

Yes definitely far too early to expect things to be back to normal. Take it very easy for at least 6 to 8 weeks after your surgery. No heavy lifting or vacuuming etc. while body heals.I was 80 when I had posterior and anterior repair and it took several months before things began to settle down and feel normal. If you can get bowels working well at this stage it's a big plus. I now walk several km everyday and everything is good but still am aware that I had surgery.

Be patient and take care not to jeapodise your recovery by doing too much. Best wishes.
