Hi I know its scary I has a bladder prolapse and potential bowel too I managed it for 10 yrs with a kegal 8 collegan vit d...I went through the menopause so had to come off hrt so my prolapse was worse as lack of estrogen ..so I had to have a posterier and anterior repair I went private at spire..and it took around 3 months to get back to normal with having both repaired...I still have to be careful with constipation but I've been bk to normal since so I def recommend a repair don't be worried about it its quite a common thing I know your younger I'm 64 but a young 64 but go see your gnynie..and ask advice but try a kegal 8 or tens pelvic floor exerciser it will def help..Good luck..jeanette

Hi I've probably messaged you before. I am extremely interested in what surgery you had. I have prolapse front back walls have to take a mild laxative daily for bowel movements. I don't have bladder leaks but l can feel my cetocele quite a bit when on my feet fir a while and also after a large meal. I'm terrified of surgery and them using polypropylene mesh. I would like to know the details of what they did to support everything. I know this is a private subject but how do l find things out?

Hi no problem at all...firstly they don't use mesh anymore but check with your surgeon.. honestly it is well worth having the operation and allow 3 months min to recover properly..I had it done through my vagina so no cuts..he repaired my anterior back passage and front bladder prolapse..they will be alot of internal stitches that why it takes a good 3 months to heal although you can still be quite active after 6 weeks drive etc...honestly that feeling of feeling your bladder depending is awful I remember it well..that dragging sensation when you have over done things..I'm 64 but a young 64 so I would definitely recommend it..I went private but only because I didn't want to wait..my gynie did work for nhs too but I choose to go to spire as first op I have had apart from my kids..anyway I'm here for Amy questions ..you can supplement your pelvic floor with collegan and vit d that helps and a kegal 8 or tens pelvic floor exerciser they are a godsend..jeanette x

Thank-you l am so scared of surgery as my gynaecology nurse who fits my pessary every six months has told me it can sometimes make you incontinent which I'm not at the moment. I have grade 2 uterus descent back and front walls dropping and a deficient perineum due to bad stitching after my only child. I also have to take a daily mild laxative to be able to have a poo with my feet raised. My gran had a prolapse as l remember my mum telling me in a hush hush way. My mum had a hysterectomy but that's because she had cancer of the uterus had it out in her 50s totally cured lived to be nearly 93. I am trying to find out all about the ops as l don't see how it's held up there. My nurse has written me a recent letter indicating mesh it sometimes still used today for bladder repairs! Please stay in touch as l need someone l can talk to openly l don't tell my friends as its so embarrassing

I'm 62 by the way had menopause at 58 that's when l started to feel uncomfortable l use a kegel 8 every day but l don't think it's working for me. I always take twice weekly pessary vagifem tablets. I restrict standing too long which limits my life activity but I'm coping not too bad with it all at the moment.

Of course u can next my gmie told me they don't use mesh now..I was going to consider a hysterectomy but Mr arthur said my uterus holds my bladder n bowel so as nothing wrong with it he decided on a repair...I.must admit I do have slight incontinence if I don't go when I need to but not bad..I would def recommend it honestly it's been worth it..buy a tens pelvic floor exerciser from amazon it helps strengthen your pelvic floor obviously you couldn't have your pessary inTry collegan and vit d..your younger than me so I would definitely consider a repair with stitches ..what part of the uk are you

Hi again yes l have heard the uterus helps to hold things up apparently there's a void called the pouch of Douglas where everything falls into! I know ladies who need bigger pessaries because they haven't got a uterus. It's so difficult to decide. My gynaecology nurse has referred me to discuss with a surgeon mind you so far her referers seem to get lost. I'm in Devon so Exeter hospital is my nearest. I'm supposed to be seeing a physio for pelvic floor but it never happens. I can use a kegel8 without removing my pessary ring. I can't remove it it's too high up. How far in does a tens exerciser go? It's possible to have sex with my silicone pessary so it probably can remain.

It's so lovely to be able to talk to someone

Yes it must be as your so young my daughter is 38 ..its all down to quality of life amd if this is impacting your quality then talk seriously to your gynie ask him to help you male the decision..obviously I'm.alot older so was easy for me..do u want more children x

Doesn't matter I'm also messaging both of you as no physical person talks about our issues so please don't stop messaging me. I need ladies like you to discuss XX Doing a bit of research to find out ladies experiences after their ops

I'm really decided at the moment and scared of ops don't want to end of worse than l am now

Hi listen I too was scared as only ever had my kids not 1 operation so at 62..I was dreading it but I'm so glad I did gone are the feelings of that depending lump in my vagjna and always checking it when I felt like a heavy sensation honestly it's a very common procedure and if it's just a repair then they will go through your vagina so no stitches in your tummy ..its all down to quality of life..if you can afford to go private then I would advise that as if your nervous you just get more attention xx

Poppycat999 profile image
Poppycat999 in reply to MOLLYMILO007

Can l ask you how much it cost you to go private please?I'm still deciding it's such a difficult decision and there seems to be some many different ops. I'm so glad yours worked for you.

Yes of course I'm in blackpool North of England cost around 6.000..if I can suggest something I feel if u have a spire or a bupa phone up ask to make a private consultation with the gynie..Google first who has the best reputation..it costs around 100...150...u don't need to go through your gp..as u are paying..they have more time as u are paying for their time.. explain everything get his honest opinion ..my consultant Mr Ian arthur was fabulous put me at ease immediately..he didn't try to talk me into it or pressure me as first he asked if I wanted to try vagufem pesseries they are a low dose hrt that u push into your vagjna 3 times a week..thar did help for a while but as I had managed my prolapse for 10 yrs but it was getting worse so I had another app and I said I'm going to go ahead his secretary got me a price and schedule it for 1 week later ..he decided just to do a posterier repair and anterior repair so alot of stitches.. honest it was so well organised lovely nurses and antheretist..I was only in 1 night and I did what they told me had a few wobbles with my bladder but it all resolved as it healed...I would recommend him 100% but u are prob in another part of the country ..hope all this helps..but book a appointment private first then explain your fears etc ..you will feel better when you have made an informed decision...jeanette

Thank-you for the information I'm not with Bupa or Spire. I'm in Devon. Exeter is my nearest hospital so im down south same as my bits ard going! There are Nuffields around here. I'm going to try and cope for awhile longer but I'm so undecided about the whole thing. It's a minefield. I'm so pleased you are OK now.

I use the twice weekly vagina estrogen pessaries on prescription they are a little tablet you would probably benefit from them too.

I had a large pelvic floor repair 4 years ago and it was worth the operation recovery time.My surgeon told me that they do not use mesh anymore.I was very incontinent and it helped with that.Pelvic floor exercises could not have helped alone I was told at wee clinic! It is quite a long recovery time but worth it.You will need a supportive husband to help around the house.

I am back to walking, yoga and dance.

You need to pace yourself and rest up when needed...but you will get your life back. You are not alone my lovely.

Sarah xx

Thank-you for your kind words l do feel alone when l have to sit down to avoid the lump dragging sensations ! and everyone else doesn't! Please keep in touch with me l haven't got wee problems at present but if it happens l will be first in the queue (with a chair) l have trouble pooing so everything is probably falling backwards l have been told my uterus is retroverted. I take a daily mild laxative which makes things softer to be able to go round my bendy bowel. It works very well would be totally constipated otherwise.

Oh it's this all such an embarrassing problem. Women's bodies seem to be badly designed

I totally agree with you I had a large repair too but I'm glad I did got my life back.. its a hard decision but well worth it..I managed mine for 10 yrs but that feeling of something depending out of ur body is something else..it was awful and makes you feel so unattractive and old...lol..but yes really worth the money I spent.. x

I have come across two main schools of thought on the female pelvic organs - one suggests women's bodies are flawed and that prolapse is normal. The other suggests that the female body is perfectly designed, and that our lifestyle choices are flawed. I instinctively prefer the second theory. The strongest advocate and with high success rate helping women with prolapse is Christine Kent of wholewoman.com. If you are looking for an alternative to surgery, you might be interested. Best wishes for your good health.

Hello l have prolapse can l ask exactly what surgery you are having and is it without polypropylene mesh? I can't stand for too long without the horrible dragging lump feelings but I'm scared of what is available after the 'sling the mesh' problems l can't really understand hiw they hold our bits and pieces up.
