new results - still bouncing back from Covid

I’m still trying to recover from a health crash from Covid in May, better results now and I’m looking better and a lot of symptoms better but I’m still struggling in a lot of ways too.

I believe iron and folate supplementation has now made my thyroid dose become too high so I’m knocking that dose back slightly and will see my thyroid doc next week, I’m on NDT so the low tsh is normal. I’ve become more anxious, agitated and struggling to get off to sleep the last few weeks and my heart feels more like it’s racing but this happens to me when I become over medicated and I’m very sensitive to t3 being even slightly over so that’s not all too surprising.

I’m still waiting on my full iron panel, vitamin b6 level recheck (this had become too high and was also seemingly giving me symptoms after taking 10mg continuously in a multi for several years which I’ve now stopped) and need to retest a few other things like the other b vits zinc, copper, selenium etc. which I will do in the next few weeks.

Could my vitamin d levels be better and is my ferritin now ok?

I’m injecting b12 twice a week.

GP prescribed me 5mg folic acid in August this year as I had become very deficient in folate after Covid. I didn’t take this amount as I’m very sensitive to folate supplements after an incident where I took a high dose of methylfolate in 2019 on the recommendation that I would need 5mg from a fb group to support my injections, even though my folate level was very good at the time (that’s a whole other story and I know that’s not the general stance on here) but I did take 400mcg. Now that my levels are very high in range would I be safe to try to drop back to a more conservative maintenance level dose of 200? It doesn’t say here but the range for folate ends at 43.3 so I’m very high in it now.

I’ve also had comprehensive gut testing which has revealed all sorts wrong, poor digestion of carbs and fats and dysbiosis with very low levels of bifido bacteria (though good levels of lactobacillus) and some nasties a bit too high though no yeast, parasites, pathogens or markers for “leaky gut”. I’m also going to be doing sibo breath testing next week. The test suggested betaine hcl supplements and some targeted probiotics. I’m going to be talking to my GP about it once Sibo results back though as he is the one that suggested doing those tests and said he would look at them with me but I do also have a practitioner I did the testing with.

So lots still to work on…

Yes it's nevercending this maintenence of a mis understood condition or conditions in your case .A fine balance .

When I went above the top reading in folate I was only taking 400mcg daily.

I take 200mcg every other day now .

I upped folate rich foods.

I stopped b6

Stopped magnesium.

Stopped everything ( well not B12 )

To see by bloods what was needed.

Apart from B12 and vitamin D I've not needed high doses in anything but do need low dose iron .

Recovery from covid was slow for me also .

I also took 5 weeks to recover from the first covid vaccine .

Hope you get back on track soon.

Ive been wondering about folic/Methylfolate dose. I have been on B12 injections EOD for 5 months now. I ‘crashed’ is this is the right term, at the beginning of October, 2 days after my flu and covi pd vaccines. I was taking 5mg folic every day but reduced that at 4 months, taking a couple a week. I also take a B complex which contains a small amount of folate. As you say, on the FB page they tell you to keep taking it, but my last test showed top of range for folate.

My nutritionist has said if I am going to take folate, then take Methylfolate (the ones I have are 400ug). But still not sure. I have had a couple of good days this week, but gone a bit downhill for the last couple of days.

I have done loads of gut testing, and the latest one shows low Lactobacillus, Bifidobacteria and Bacteroides. So nutritionist has suggested a supplement with guar gum which she feels should help these to increase. My gut seems all over the place. It’s possible I’m not absorbing fat properly. I just haven’t managed to get the microbes balanced just yet. So I wonder if the dysbiosis affects my absorption of vitamin D+K, magnesium and folate.

Oh and I do take Betaine HCL and have done for a while, and has helped a bit.

All such a confusing time.
