Hi guys, I'm Robyn. I'm 21 years old and have been suffering from back pain since January. It was a sudden onset case. However it has been worsening since. A seperate incident in my back happened in May, I sneezed and damaged my coccyx, I had a manipulated of my tailbone done in October under General anaesthetic with a steroid injection done too. I thought I was seeing improvements but it's sadly not the case. I'm now taking Oxycodone (Longtec), naproxen, paracetamol, amitriptyline, fultium-d3 and oxynorm liquid too. I'm now at the point I'm struggling at work, struggling at home trying to sleep and I'm waiting on being referred to the pain clinic. I have never had any scans done on my back and I am receiving physio. I'm wondering if anyone can help me at all. I'm at the point I have constant pain, sitting, standing, lying down. It surrounds my life, I'm swallowing so many painkillers and feeling no relief, I get to the point I'm drowsy and out of it due to painkillers or having to try go to bed as it's that bad, just trying to sleep it off so I can't feel anymore. I'm wondering if I need a scan or any tests done but don't know who to turn to, I've tried going to my GP so many times but have had no real help. Any advice would be amazing as I'm totally lost.

Hello Bertie. I am so sorry you are in pain. I hurt my back in 1978 and had chiropractic work done on me. it was okay for about 6 months, but came back again.
Eventually, in 1992 I had surgery. It was quick and thankfully, I have had relatively free movement since then.
I say relatively free, because I sometimes do a stupid thing and lift something awkwardly or too heavy. We have to remember that once our back is weak, it will always cause us some pain if we do something silly.
My wife constantly reminds me to take things easy rather than go through it all again. But do I listen???
The only thing I can suggest at the moment is a Chiropractor or a sports therapist. I do hope you get some relief and are able to enjoy your activities again
My thoughts are with you
Kind Regards
Hi how long did it take after your surgery to feel.normal.again.?i am at week 9 l.am.told maybe year+ i had 3 level.decompression no.fusion I .am 65
I had sciatica leg pain that is gone now thank.god but numbness and body weakness/mental
Hiya Tommyj I came out of hospital 5 days after the op in the February and was back at work on May 8th of that year. In a sense, there will always be a twinge now and again, if that happens, just take it as a reminder. During my time at home after the op, I had pain in my leg, and numbness and when I went for my follow up, I mentioned it to my surgeon. His reply was, "I can only take away the cause of the pain, you will find the pain and numbness will slowly subside." They called my op a discectomy . I also found that little walks around the block every day helped. I have retired now, But still take a daily walk. I hope your recovery is swift, but do take care. And I apologise for the length of this reply.
Hi Bertie
I was in a similar situation. I had a Total of 4 Rmi scan including the one I paid privately when I saw a Chiropractor doctor. Your GP should refer you to hospital for this, If they do not get the help from your surgery speak to your MP.
Please do not feed your body with so much pain killers, they will come back to hurt you later in life or even now as you describe it. I do physio N yoga.
Take care🙋♀️🎄
Hi thankyou for commenting, I have tried private physio and he recommended an mri scan about 5 months ago. He wrote a letter to my GP who said they couldn't do one. I'm at the point it's every day, with little relief. I can't remember a day I had no pain in my back now.
Get a mri this will.eliminate guess work i had mri showed severe spinal stenosis at 3 levels in lumbar and had laminectomy and foraminectomy now no more pain but long recovery process for full.recovery body /leg Strength might take 18months i am.at month 3 post opp
Hi... I have just had an operation on my Spine I too damaged my coccyx many years ago but then like you I had sudden back pain I kept going to Dr's and got more and more pain killers which didn't work I also suffer with depression and anxiety so even worse... I insisted to my Dr's that I needed a scan so ended up having many M. R I scans and they found a disc touching a nerve so the operation shaved a small piece of disc off so the nerve was not being pressed this is my 2nd week after the Op so I can't really say yet but I am not taking so many pain killers and I am awake most of the day go back to your Dr's and explain and tell them you need a scan.... Good Luck with it hope you get some relief soon back pain is one of the most painful things

Please insist on scan phyiso might harm.you if have pinched nerves like i did
Hi
A young person like yourself should not be given so many pain killers on guess work which is what potentially your GP is doing. You should see a different GP if you can and insist an MRI. Sometimes you have to be firm with them, they should not disgusts this as it’s been going on for long enough. Take someone e with you if possible that could possibly fit your cause with you. I know it’s wrong but you have to fight for yourself. Please do it.
Keep fighting.
I know all too well about pain I live with it 24/7 365yr and it sucks the life right out of you, I have psoriatic arthritis so everyday feels like I have broken bones ...I take no prescription pain meds I refuse. I found magnesium and calcium has helped, I take them couple of hours before bed and one Advil before my head hits pillow and I sleep pretty good.
Demand a scan and get well soon
Idea only BertieB, not saying this is the answer, but you did ask. 😀 and seeing you don’t seem to be getting anywhere it might be a good idea to
check your vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin, folate and get Thyroid bloods done.
Idea only - Ask for your blood printout of any bloods done, (by law we are entitled to our own blood results, for our own records,)
‘Within range’ blood results can still be causing patients terrible symptoms/medical problems yet Drs often will say there is nothing wrong with you cos your bloods are ‘within range’.
Do not supplement vitamin B12 until you have bloods done as once you supplement it is extremely difficult to prove a B12 deficiency if you have a B12 deficiency.
What dose of D3 are you on now ? Can I ask ?
Many of your symptoms can be caused by vitamin deficiencies, though not saying YOUR own symptoms are from vitamin /thyroid deficiencies.
Sadly prescription medications can bring on vitamin deficiencies, don’t expect Drs to be very knowledgable about vitamins and minerals,
I have turned many of my own conditions and helped others health problems with vitamins and minerals alone. I never realised vitamins and minerals were so powerful.
I was told I’d never cure my tailbone pain, just learn to live with it. 😢
Well guess what ? 🤩
Remember once on two prescription pills or more even Drs themselves cannot tell you what side effects you will get, cos we are all different.
Prescription pills have a long printed out list of side effects, (for a reason,) prescription pills can have devastating effects for many people each year as you probably know ? but vitamins and minerals have, as far as I know, not had anyone listed down as dying from them last time I heard. 🧐
Hi, thanks for responding. I'm on 2 800units a day for fultium-d3 which was prescribed due to lack of found in a blood test a year or so ago.
Can I Private Message you on here ?
I too had back and tailbone pain and found sitting, stiffness getting up, standing around and walking very painful, plus more 🤪 but all fell away overnight once on a high safe amount of vitamin D3.
In winter I had to up my dose as all pains came back again, again all pains went away. I now listen to what my body tells me.
Remembering vitamin D is the sunshine vitamin and many complain their bones and joints hurt more so in winter.
I am with many on here. This is just silly of your GP trying to save money. Insist on an MRI. I have had several back surgeries but if it had been up to my GP nothing would have happened. Only when it became slow onset cauda equine did he listen. Taking all those painkillers is not the answer when they don’t even know what if anything is wrong. Go back to your GP, make sure you don’t smile and kind of drag yourself and then ask for an MRI.
Good luck.
If you are in the U.K. your GP will need to refer you to a consultant who can arrange the MRI. You need that to know what you are dealing with. If you are in, or can get to, London, then you could ask your GP to refer you to a surgeon at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery - part of UHCL. They are a centre of excellence.
Thankyou, I was referred to orthopaedic who did the tailbone manipulation, however when I went for my 6 week review I mentioned I was still having back pain and it was in New places since the procedure he just said it's just stiffness go to physio, with no scan just looking at my movement standing.
All you can do is keep on at your GP - especially if the pain is in a new place. He could refer you to a different hospital to see a different consultant if you want. If it is a boney problem an x-ray might show up an abnormality as a start
Yes can you provide more info pls

Gp’s can order MRI scans as long as they fill in all the appropriate paperwork that goes with. If he won’t you can ask to be referred to a neuro surgeon, which is where I was referred to.

Hi there,You sound like me I take several pain medications but to me the Dihyhdrocoden is what I call my main one I think I have been on just about everything there is on the market I have learnt that I have to change each of the pain medications every 18 to 24 months I can keep on top of it as my body gets use to each different one after a year or two but by changing them it keeps the pain to a level I can cope with.
Good luck finding something that works for you.
