I've suffered from Chronic Pain for many years now. I've had and still use many different types of pain killers, including Pregabalin, Amitriptyline and at one stage I was taking 135mg Slow Release Morphine Tablets twice a day.
Although these have been changed and reduced over the years, the hardest was Morphine, which was acting as an addiction rather than a pain killer.
I went to a four-week course in London at St Thomas's Hospital, in which I reduced the Morphine down to 60mg Twice Daily.
The times are changing, and I don't think the GP's of today would ever prescribe such a high dosage of this today.

No morphine is really hard to get hold of. Although a friend of a friend got it prescribed from his GP when he pulled hi back out playing tennis a few years ago. I was stunned considering the level of pain I’m in all day every day and my GP wouldn’t prescribe anything other than co codamol 😂
Hello I have been on exactly the same prescription drugs as you.
Amitriptylene - 60mg daily- but I refuse to take Amitriptylene, I think it's evil! I was a zombie.
Slow release morphine - 120mg x 2 daily, but I reduced that to 30mg x 2 daily by myself as I knew that such a high dose was doing nothing for me.
Pregabalin - 300mg x 2 daily, which I still take as in my opinion it works for me.
I take morphine sulphate liquid daily & many other medications.
People are asking how is it possible that I/we get this prescribed. The simple answer is, I personally have serious, debilitating pain 24/7 & it is not the GP who prescribes the medication, it is the pain clinic.
My issue with the pain clinic is that whenever I go there, all they want to do is increase & increase the dosages every nine months! Which I now refuse to do.
I am the one who decreased my dosage or stopped the various medications, I didn't ask for help as I knew that I could do it by myself.
Unfortunately, I am in a physical state that I will always be medicated. But I refuse to live in the state of being a "zombie", sleeping all the time etc. Maybe that's what these doctors want, so I'm not in constant pain or maybe it's to stop me moaning at them, telling them that I am struggling with pain.
Who knows? But, please don't judge or question why or how some people are on such high doses of various medications.
Love & light ✨️ to all who are struggling with pain & those who may have taken the time to read my reply ✨️
