Hello.

My mother 5 years from diagnose. We live in Spain.

She has been in constant treatment since may 2018.

The oncologist commented that there were not many treatment alternatives. She is BRCA negative.

The treatments received were:

1. CARBO + TAXOL.

** NED 10 months

2. CARBO + TAXOL + AVASTIN

** NED and maintenance only agent AVASTIN

3. CARBO + TAXOL

** NED 5 months

4. DOXIL (CAELIX) + YONDELIS (TRABECTEDINA)

** NED 5 months

5. DOXIL + YONDELIS. Doesn`t work, change to CARBO + GEMZAR (GEMCITABINA) until now.

Please tell me possibilities of treatments? BRCA negative.

Oncologist commented Taxol weekly, then Topotecan and last option hormonal therapy. He thinks maybe the defenses of my mother were not resist Taxol or Topotecan, and hormonal therapy said that normally doesnt work...

After that he thinks there are not more options... Clinic trial aren’t in Spain for the situation of my mother...

Thanks a lot.

Dolores.

Hi Dolores

Sorry to hear that your Mum on this challenging journey. I don’t know what is available to her in terms of other treatments but if it is possible for her to get a second opinion from a specialist in OC that could be a good thing to do. New drugs tend to be accessed through drug trials in the UK- I think I have read that Spain is pretty forward thinking about new drugs- might there be trials she could take part in? Hope you and your Mum find some answers xx

Thanks for your answer, online I found 29 clinic trials of ovarian cancer in Spain, the majority were for woman at the beginning of the desease. I wil try a second opinion, but it’s true that my mother now is carbo reflectant and so less possibilities of treatment...

Hormone therapy may not get rid of the cancer, but can keep tumours stable for a while, & is easier to cope with than chemo. I've had 3 courses of chemo, &. have now been back on hormone therapy for 15 months. Di

It's not a type of chemo. It's a once a day tablet. Di

Hi lovely,

I’m surprised they did Carbo/taxol three times in a row! Can they opt for Niraparib? My special person is in a similar situation Carbo/Taxol Avastin and surgery NED 1 year

Carbo/Gem 6 months of being dormant

Carbo/Caelyx

Niraparib for 11 months

Carbo/Taxol 4 months of being dormant

Single agent Caelyx recently started but not likely working. Trials is our next option which with everything on the NHS is another uphill battle!

Both had similar treatments, we are in similar situation. Maybe left Topotecan? Taxol weekly? My mother will try..., another problem are the plaquelets frequently down, if it would continue happening, the doctor told stop the therapies... and then I don’t know if then comes the hospice?

There is an article in the Ovacome newsletter about the Rotterdam treatment for those who have become chemo resistant.

The Rotterdam is a tough one - cisplatin and etoposide tablets. I am platinum resistant and did the Rotterdam last summer with some success, but my cancer is now returning. It will buy some time for sure, but you need to be strong for it. Not all hospitals do it.
