Stage IVb Uterine Cancer

My above diagnosis was in Feb. 2017. I had a complete hysterectomy along with the removal of my omentum. I then had 18 treatments of taxol and carbo. My CA-125 was down to a 7. It climbed again a few months later and I’m now on doxil and avastin for about 6 sessions. My hands, legs and back really hurt. I’m scared about my prognosis. Have any of you had the same diagnosis/treatment? Thank you.

Debbie

I don't know about the Doxil, but Avastin does give you joint pain, so don't worry too much. It's probably just a side effect of the Avastin. Put Avastin into the search engine on this site and you'll find a lot of posts about its side effects. Right now I'm trying ibuprofen and CBD oil for the pain, but I have not found the best solution yet.

I was diagnosed IVb December 2014. After 8 rounds of Carbo/Taxol I was NED until October 2016. Tried Olaparib--tumors kept going; then tried Carbo/Doxil which stopped working after 6 rounds. Now on a clinical trial that has decreased my tumors by 20% after 4 rounds of Mirvetuximab Soravtansine and Gemcitabine--going on to 4 more rounds investor.immunogen.com/news...

I am also visiting a surgeon next week to see if I can get surgery at some point when the tumors are further reduced. Secondary surgery seems to give the longest survival odds.

It is frustrating to have uterine cancer as many clinical trials are only for ovarian even though serous carcinoma is the same whether in the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or uterus.

Lots more clinical trials include uterine cancer now--keep looking at clinicaltrials.gov and the survivor's course the Fdt. for Women's Cancer gives is full of info.

Thank you so much for your reply. I wish you all the best. I tried to get into a clinical trial but the dr. in charge of it told me I was not a candidate.

Hi I had the same but not avastin or doxil. I had pain in the back too. Sometimes it feels like ages until you start to feel better but you will. I am 2 years all clear now. Keep going x

Thank you so much for your reply. My back hurts a lot too but since I’ve had 3 prior back surgeries I didn’t know if it was the drugs or just more back problems.

Hi Debbie. Doxil - that's Caelyx, isn't it?

I was on Carbo/Caelyx/Avastin for 6 months. I was initially diagnosed Ovarian cancer 3C in 2011. Had 2 ops: hysterectomy & to remove the tumours. Avastin has continued as maintenance for 3 years after. I have not had any aches & pains from Avastin but I know some women do. I had many side effects from Caelyx. My hands were very sore - even a bit difficult to lift a cup of tea. My hands had lots of 'paper-cuts' and also tiny depressions along the lines in my hands. Hands also turned orange from the colour of the drug. Caelyx had a lot of other side effects too but it got me into remission. Avastin has kept me there to date. Best wishes. Pauline.

Thank you Pauline for sharing with me. I too have skin discoloration. I’m so glad to hear you’ve been in remission for so long. Thank you again.

Debbie, ask your Dr. If your a candidate for IP intraperitinel chemotherapy. Adds 18 mo to 3 yrs to life, keeps cancer at bay. I had it with my first time chemo and that was April 2014. Might help you.❤❤Liz

Thank you Liz. My dr. Called me yesterday to tell me my CA-125 has risen again from 41 to 72. Needless to say I’m feeling a little defeated. He told me there are still a lot of other drugs we can try. I see him next week so I’m ask him about what you suggested. Thank you so much for the information. 💗💗

Cancer is tiff you really have to become your own advocate. Learn as much as you can and IP chemo is done in US and works I did 18 rounds of chemo in 14 weeks 1/2 being. IP. It's costly and it's not used very often in the UK, probably due to cost. I think that's so wrong. I did cysplaten and paxitroxil 2 times in hospital, had to stay over night the cysplaten was too strong changed it to carboplaten and I went and didn't have to stay the night. Still took 8 hrs. I would have pre meds in arm then paxitroxil. Finished that about 3 hrs, you lay down. Then pre meds and IP would start. Total about 5 hrs. They attached a port for chemo only to your lower right rib cage. 30 min surgery, no buggy. After all we've been through. Just so you have an idea. I sure hope and pray you get to try this. I asked my female Dr.Amy Hakim what treatment she would want if she was in my shoes and that's what I got. April 2014, my ca125 has been a 5-6 pending on labs since. Best wishes I really pray you get the opportunity to try this and it works for you.❤❤❤Liz

Thank you Liz. I also have a port but it’s in the upper right of my chest. Best of luck and I hope your success continues.

They can't use that port, the port on rib is only to put chemo in stomach cavity. No blood draws out.. ❤❤Liz
