Well done on staying quit for so long

I had to get my calendar out to check when I quit its coming up to 8 years on April 1st as I had been rushed into hospital for an emergency operation and ended up staying there for nearly 2 weeks as my body too long to recover

I had been cutting down on how many I smoked for about 6 months I was told that if I had been still smoking the same amount that I might not have recovered as I had been smoking around 30 a day kingsize roll ups a day but I got down to between 6 and 8 prior to my stay in hospital because in the previous October I had developed a really bad chest infection that I just couldn't shake off and my doctor and family were all saying the same thing

STOP SMOKING

But I decided I would cut down as I honestly thought I enjoyed smoking too much to quit

But with the time I spent in hospital I thought I was going to die because I struggled to breathe and even though I thought I wouldn't be able to stay quit everytime I fancied a ciggy I would think back to how bad I was

It's been a rough time for me in the last 6 months as not only was I a smoker I was a heavy drinker as well and I have quit both and then my mum died suddenly last year and even though my addict brain was telling me to drink and smoke especially as everyone around me was doing both I didn't give in apart from the day off her funeral when my brother lit up a cigarette next to me and I asked him if I could have a puff but as I took it from him and put it in my mouth I straight away started to gag and gave it back to him as just the taste of the butt was absolutely revolting I think if I had inhaled it I would have been sick

Thankfully I had some mints in my bag so was able to get rid of that disgusting taste

Yuk

Mum would be so proud of me for not going back to either of those habits

That is good. I have a horrible feeling that if I was determined even gagging wouldn’t stop me. Well done
