I quit.

Hi! ok, my name is paul i am 61 years old and for the last 25 years of my life i am married to a wonderful woman. I was diagnosed 2.5 years ago with COPD and i had stopped smoking before i found out about my lung issues.

I am also a member of the British lung foundation forum.

Stopping smoking was a decision i made myself without informing any one else but i knew after a few days that i needed something to help me along so i slowly built up little by little my own gym in my garden man shed and train 3 times per week and knowing my lungs will never heal and my breathing is difficult at times i keep at it. Yes! i do miss a good smoke but i am a kind of guy that if i take 1 smoke i will be so disappointed in myself and a failure. My wife has never smoked not even my old passive smoke as i use to go outside to smoke. I smoked from the age of 15 and now i am free of it but not the damage it has left in me. I live in west yorkshire and semi retired from many skills.

:-) Paul.

PS I stopped smoking on april 4th 2011 after my breathing got harder whilst doing jobs that one time took no effort. Even with my copd my health has improved according to the NHS by 80% a result given me after finishing copd rehab.

Hi Coll... Warm welcome and thank you so much for an honest life story... You have stopped 4 Years ago when you was the same age as I was when I stopped almost 14 months ago. I was also diagnosed with COPD...Yes COPD is not curable or reversible but if we can live without smoking it will not exacerbate.(Pollution also plays a part)

I know that difficulty in certain activities as I have found it much more difficult to bash the waves practicing my favorite sport : Kayak Fishing...!!

After I stopped it became easier and my whole life changed... I took control of my own life...and enjoy that new guy in charge !!!

Stay strong and post frequent...!!!
