Hello, I’ve just joined the forum this evening and I just wanted to share how I’m feeling and hoping I’m not alone. I’ve been a sufferer of depression on and off for over 20 yrs. I am currently on a 150mg dose of Sertraline. I have recently moved to live with my partner for a new start, but I absolutely hate it and feel extremely vulnerable and isolated. I don’t know anybody except for my partner’s family, my own family live quite a distance away from me and that’s really hard for me. I gave up my business to move and now I was I hadn’t. My partner try’s to support me, but he actually finds it too difficult and has his own demons to deal with. I haven’t worked since June of last year, so my confidence is shattered also, and to top it all off COVID-19 made it even more of a struggle! I’ve referred myself for some therapy, but I’m on a 7 month waiting list.

Anyway I’m hoping things will get better sooner than later, but it’s so difficult to be positive and rise above it.

Hello Joski, welcome here. I am sorry for your pain and suffering. Depression is truly a burden on our lives. It makes us focus on the negative things in and around us, making us forget all that's wonderful. First thing to remember is this- it's not your fault that you are feeling the way you do. Watching some comedy content always helps improve my mood. Try watching birds around you. If you have pets, even better. Animals give us a different perspective of life. Are you doing some sort of exercise? Just doing some walking can improve our mood a lot. While you are at it, you can listen to some music, songs or positive affirmations using headphones. And like you said, " Things will get better". It's just a matter of time.

I do relate to how you feel, Mental Health appointments can be a real problem because of the stress of the Covid Virus.

How I see it you have really changed your Life Pathway, by loosing yourbuisiness and moving away from your family and you must be feeling very out on a limb.

I cannot really see any real problems with your Partner and yourself although both of you seen to have the baggage of Mental Health Concerns. This I suppose is amplified by being seen by a new Doctor.

If the relationship is failing you have various things to consider, are you ready to both your partner/ self living together ? Possibly it may be an idea for you to take a break back to your own town and this may give you breathing space to see how to go in the future, that is your decision and it may be counter productive in what you have been achieving away from home. You sound unhappy so you need to make that decision soon

When did you start your medication and how long have you been living with your Partner ?

Hi Bob, thanks for your reply. I’ve been on numerous types of anti-depressives since 1998, my current medication of Sertraline I have been taking since 2015. I’ve been living with my partner for over a year now, though we met in 2019.

Hello Joe, what would you say that has unsettled you in this relationship. ?Relationships change over the years and the older the relationship is the more the relationship will settle down to a form of truce. That is my view of course, after forty years. You are still at early days yet and a relationship after a time can go through a stressful time that we all need to struggle with.

Difficult times like these will not be helping you both. A time out may be ideal where you can have a short break together even a visit to your old town might help you feel a little bit better

Hi, Yeah Covid life is really hard right now. I am on 150 mg sertraline as well. Sometimes it can be hard to go outside or out of bed. I was wondering if you have a place like a yard or maybe just some green space nearby if you live in an apartment where you could just sit for a while to get some sunshine. I find it hard to exercise or go for a walk, but just sit in the sun for a bit can help us too. If that isn’t possible, how about just opening a window in the room you are in or sitting near the window if you need to keep it closed for A/C. Covid is coming to an end soon. Hang in there!
