Sore throat

Hi all. I am on mycophenolate 1g twice a day prednisolone 5mg daily.  Plus other meds like hydrochloroquine. Now I have sore throat. What do I do. I have had these meds for almost 6 mths and more .  As some are immunosuppressant.

Do I take vitamins to boost immunity whilst   I am suppressing it with immunosuppressant.  I am really confused.

Nooo you dont want to boost it otherwise it defeats the object of immuneduppressants,do u not take antihistamines and paracetamol are best for sore throats if it carrys on for more than 4 days the see ur Dr hope this helps im not medically trained just lupus aware x

I agree with kittykat...and would add that  if this gets more severe within a day or so, please see a GP right away...no need to hesitate.  You should receive antibiotics immediately.  Some rheumatologists let us continue on myco & pred so long as our infection is clearly immediately damping down in response to antibiotics (eg within 2 days), but others of us are so immune compromised that we must stop myco while taking antibiotics.

If you have a lupus specialist nurse, please give her a ring about this .

Hi favour6,

I would like to echo Barnclown and kittykat68's advice. Generally when taking immunosuppressant treatments like mycophenolate you are advised to report the early stages of any infections to your doctor. If necessary they can then treat using antibiotics and if required, advise you to temporarily stop the treatment until the infection clears up. Please don't attempt to boost your immune system as this can potentially increase the activity of your lupus. You should always consult your doctor about taking any vitamin supplements in case they interact with treatments or could potentially have an undesired impact on your condition.

Hi Paul,  don't know if you got  a reply I was trying to type a little while ago , don't know if was deleted or sent. Anyway I  will wait and see if this stuffy nose will settle. Sore throat stopped.

Thanks Paul.  Sore throat stopped. Looks like I am still with blocked & stuffy nose. Some times I have  headache which paracetamol helps. During the course of the day, I have been  feeling heaviness in body. I sneeze some things but not having fever. maybe it is lflu without aches and pain.
