I need some help with my next step(s)

I am very self aware of my triggers, my mental health issues, my anger issues, my anxiety, the fact that I have pushed people away with my issues/reactions etc. i am very aware that in some situations I've been in, I was not the victim. I am toxic. I get it. I won't deny it or post as if I'm a victim when I am not entirely, I just don't want to be this way anymore. What is the next step? How do I make this better? How do I make this go away?

Hi MadMilz,

A lot of those issues can be processed in trauma therapy. It may not be easy but worth it once you get through the healing process.

It can be personalised, non judgemental, gentle approach.

I found somatic experiencing therapy to be very helpful.

I hope others can add more about what helped them.

Hi Nathalie99. Thank you for responding I appreciate that. Where can I get trauma therapy and how does it work? Is it like a normal therapy session or something else?

I agree with Natalie99. The right therapy can make a massive difference. I had EMDR therapy. It has been incredible - hugely transformative and quite mind blowing in its power to heal. I would suggest that you do some research online and on YouTube. There are some really good articles and videos. If you are not able for whatever reason to access therapy at the moment, learning about the whole subject can still be really helpful.

Plus you can ask people stuff on here. I have learnt a lot from the lovely people in this community.

Best wishes. 🌼

No problem. Here's a link to a good explanation of EMDR.

Please feel free to ask anything you need to.

Marnie, you may not be able to answer this, but I was wondering, does EMDR help with a trigger even if you don't know the origin of it? I've been triggered by my husband's heavy breathing, but I don't know what happened in my past to make me so quickly and intensely triggered. My current therapist does somatic experiencing, but I don't seem to be making progress in this issue, and I'm wondering if I need to look for a different therapist.

Hi. I think it's very likely that it could help. I am basing that on the fact that I worked with my psychologist on pre-verbal trauma - so I couldn't remember any of it as I was too young. As long as you find a therapist who is trained and experienced in trauma focused therapy to do the EMDR with you, I can't see any reason why it would be a problem.

Hope that helps. 🌼

I’ve never received therapy and I have similar struggles

Yes, process it in therapy. There is a reason why you act the way you do. You need to process the why. Whenever I want to change my behavior, I set goals and define exactly what the change would look, sound and feel like. I fake it til I make it.
