UPDATE ON CHEST PAIN AND BREATHLESSNESS....

I went back to see another dr after the first one was dissmisive and gave me an appointment for an ecg in 3 months time! (and I had to ask for that!!) The result was that the second dr sent me for a chest xray and BNP test the following day. The results of the test showed the need for further investigation and my appointment for an echocardiogram and an electrocardiogram is for two weeks time. He is also sending me for an exercise stress test.

What a different attitude eh? hopefully I will have had them all completed and know if anything is wrong BEFORE my original ecg appiontment date.

Oh I hope you do get this sorted..I had no idea that the amitriptyline meds I was on for my FMS does affect the heart rate much to my own cost. I had a cardiac arrest and was lucky that someone was around to perform CPR. It is only through thorough tests on my heart that they discovered I had left ventricle arrythmia in my heart ..I was told that the medication I was on was highly likely to have helped in that respect....After my cardiac arrest it was discovered that heart problems are prevelant on my fathers side..who was an american..my parents divorced when I was a child so I was unware of this. I do think that there should be more rigourous medical checks when it comes to prescribing drugs such as amitriptyline to patients. I was one of the lucky ones...I was taken off mine immediately and unfortunately now I am unable to take any medication to help me with my FMS I was on amitriptyline and venaflaxine for more than seven years...My pain levels do get bad...but I am left to deal with this with just paracetamol, as I am now on long term heart meds..so I am unable to take anything that interferes with those...! Wish you luck with your tests...Oh it was the OMCR scan test that showed up my problems in my heart...! Good luck with your tests...hope they find something that helps you...

Hi bev,

sorry to hear your news i hope all is well now,

I have had three heart attacks and a minor stroke in the last seven years thank goodness i feel better for taking my small mountain of meds and my stent's,but i also take my fibro meds Tramadol, i was taking gabapentain and amitriptyline, but they didn't help so its tram and paracetamol. that's all that works for me they only take the edge off the pain so better then nothing. I do wish you well.

Mary :) xx

hello Mary well I know the feeling I was only prescribed paracetamol for pain and of course asprin which is for thinning my blood...the other meds are for my heart....to be honest to be taken off the amitriptyline and venaflaxine instead of being weened sort of sent me off the rails so to speak...I find myself getting very low and very emotional....will be seeing my doc tomorrow..but that is to see if they will increase the ramipril...I have bad days for FMS just like everyone else...mind you at least I still have my wheatbag...which to be honest does help at times...as I heat it up in the microwave...as for paracetamol well they just about take the edge off the pain....but its short lived!!! Not sure what future I have in that respect all very frustrating and daunting :( I am so sorry to hear about your heart attacks....I didnt even know I was having those...I put it all down to my FMS so ignored the signs..as a result cardiac arrest..my heart stopped completely...They have now discovered that I have cardiomyopathy and it is apparently genetic...which is something else I wasnt aware of..until it all was revealed after my cardiac arrest! I sort of feel quite depressed at times knowing that I may be passing something on to my own children or even their children...! The FMS I knew how to deal with that sort of and had come to terms with the...cardiomyopathy...is a whole different ball game and minefield..! Hope all works out for you Mary :) xx

I didn't realise Amytryptiline could cause heart problems. Even more glad I stopped taking it now. ! I too suffered chest pain and had to persist in seeing a Dr. Mine turned out to be Reflux. Another VERY common symptom of FM apparently. Was prescribed Omeprazole, which also helps my IBS.So take it at first sign of pains in my chest and arm! and it goes very quickly. But these symptoms are also those of someone having a heart attack, so wise to NEVER presume it is all connected to FM. Best wishes to all Sue.
